Anyone here get really bad allergies?

I have allergies so fucking bad right now, I cant sleep, wake up with a sore throat and congested. My tatoos are all itchy and the ink is being pushed out, skin get itchy too. I just started taking claritin but that shit doesnt kick in for 2 weeks or something.

I only get a few hours sleep, once I lie down my sinus's drain into my throat and I wake up choking, so I end up reading GFY half the night.

Anyone get them as bad as me? How the fuck do I fix it!

Claritin should work right away. Try the Claritin-D (250mg) or Clarinex.

I suffer from chronic allergies the last bout I had lasted over 18 months

If Claritin/Clarinex isn't working try Zyrtec, it's an allergy medication which works differently to Claritin, also ask your pharmacist for chlorpheniramine (this is the base for Piriton and many other over the counter allergy meds but MUCH cheaper). If it doesn't start to clear up soon see your doctor, a short course of steroids might be in order.

Good luck!

I had allergies bad when I lived in LA. A couple weeks of the year, I don't know what it was in the air, some kind of pollen, but it got so bad I was squinting my eyes shut from the itching feeling.

As soon as I moved to Florida and got the hell out of smog city my allergies completely stopped.

I have killer cat/dog allergies and all the over-the-counter antihistamines barely work and they knock my ass out so I can't think straight all day.

Believe it or not the newer nasal spray medicines work like magic for me. I usually get itchy and red itchy watery eyes and sneezing and wheezing and all that shit, but Nasalcrom stops all that shit pretty quickly.

Check it out: http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/20886.htm

I have allergies as bad as you can get pretty much. My arm looked like I got hit by a shotgun from the tests. This time of year used to just about kill me. 3 years ago I got on Allegra. One stupid cheap pill a day (along with hardwood floors and keeping the damn house clean) changed my life. I could not believe what a difference it made.

I have very severe allegries that my former doctor has ignored the last 5 years. NO medicine was given to me.. My allergy testing was worse than someone with asthma when I was tested in 93. They are so bad that at the point that I say my new doctor in Jan, I had high blood pressure with some anixety. She has the blood pressure down now but the prescription nasal spray and claritin is not working. Since claritin is over the counter, my hmo will not pay for allegra that my doctor requested.

I am coughing ,sore throat etc and up half the night like you. I been getting severe chest pain that is not related to the blood pressure I have come to the conclusion that I have gotten mild asmatha from the former doctor's lack of taking care of the allergies. I suspect the blood pressure problem was a build up from ignoring the allergies and not being able to exercise cause it is difficult to breathe. Hell, asthma can cause heart problems.

I go back in the end of the month to request a visit to an Allergist so I can get skin test as proof to get the allergra or see if she can put me on something for my insurance will cover and won't affect my heart..

It sucks. If the doctor would have listened to me 5 years ago instead of trying to win brownie points with the hmo, I would been on allergy medicine only .

Yes, a simple pill like allegra can work miracles. I hope you are not on a hmo like BLUE shield otherwise you going to have fun.

I never had what I consider to be bad allergies until I moved down here to Georgia.
I have been here for 4 years now, and this is the worst year so far.
Of course my allergies are nothing in comparison to that yummy description at the top, but they're bad enough for me!

I've had allergies for about 9 years or so... Started using claritin but then it stopped working for me... tried a few different brands since then and now I use Reactine (cetirizine hydrochloride) non drowsy and works great...

I'm in Canada and its available without a prescription... not sure but I think you need one in the USA...

I should be getting money from Pfizer for this

"Side effects with Allegra 60 mg for seasonal allergies are low; less than 3% of people experience cold or flu, nausea, menstrual pain, or drowsiness."

How can they experience a cold or a flu... last time I checked they are virus's

I'm allergic to cats ( and I have 4), pollen, dust, smoke, and mold spores. *sigh* There are days when I can 't get out of bed.

I take a claratin in the mornings and then 3 benadryl allergy right after and I'm good to go for the day. Dr. says that's fine, since I don't respond to just claratin or just the benadryl. This combo has worked very well for me for about a year.

Once I get the hell out of TN, I'll feel better. I'll move to like Nevada or Arizona or something.

Get a very good Hepa Filter... put it in your bedroom, run it all the time and keep the door and windows in that room closed. Cover your funace vents in that room with cheesecloth.

I was allergic to everything under the sun when I was a kid. I took allergy shots twice a week from the age of 3 until I was 8. When we moved to Washington state the first time, the majority of the allergies went away except for the seasonal ones.

A couple of years ago, I tried all three of the majors, Claritan, Allegra, and Zyrtec. It was the Zyrtec that worked the best for me. I take it year-round now, not just during the 'allergy season'.

The Hepa thing is my dad's trick. It's helped him alot.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who have periodic asthma and aren't aware of it.

When I was growing up after I'd have a bad cold, I'd cough really bad for more than a month. My parents (both in the medical field) and docs called it bronchitus.

About 12 years ago, I had a bad cold bug. It settled in my chest and I coughed so much over the next month I cracked two ribs. Finally went to a pulmonary doc and after listening to my history he told me I had a form of asthma. It's only triggered by bronchial irritation or as they called it provocation. Last time I had a problem with it was after clearing snow out of my driveway. I wheezed, coughed, couldn't breath well, etc for a couple of days after. It was breathing all that cold air while working that did it.

If you think you may have it, go see a doc. The doc won't mind the visit and you'll know one way or the other.

As a young kid I had them really bad -- almost died my mom tells me... I couldn't go outside much because of pollen... I recovered fine tho...

Essentially this is what you can do...

1. Anything that can't be wiped clean from dust/mold -- remove it from your living space. Yes that means no sofas or carpet, etc... No bed comforters... your bedding and furniture will probably need to be changed... Get the air ducts in your home cleaned...
2. If you have any pets -- get rid of them immediately.
3. Fucking clean everything...
4. Completely change your diet -- do not eat anything that you used to eat -- yes that means anything that enters your mouth must be completely new... So if you ate cereal yesterday -- you must stop eating cereal entirely until you get better... eat entirely new items and don't repeat any food twice within a week... Once you have recovered -- you may systematically enter new foods back into your regular diet to see if you are having a reaction to something in particular...

You should get better after that... If you are still feeling bad...

1. Move close to the ocean -- the air quality is much better -- very good for allergies. There could be something blooming that is fucking you up -- or some nearby source of pollution that is blowing into your area. Next best place for allergies is a desert. In ANY case, a new environment will help -- so moving is a good idea... Remember that allergies are your reaction to repeat exposure to the same shit... If you over-expose yourself to anything -- you will become allergic to it... You can BECOME allergic to pets, milk, just about anything if exposed long enough and if your immune system is weak...

The above is the standard way to deal with allergies... It's a big change in your life but you have to do it to recover your immune system... If you think about it -- you are treating the PROBLEM by removing the SOURCE of the allergy... BUT you yourself know that allergies aren't NORMAL for most people... YOU are the real problem... it's useless for someone to tell you it's all psychological because you CAN correct the problem by removing the allergens -- BUT you can be perfectly sane and still have allergies... You will need to go the extra mile to improve your strength...

Think to yourself -- well fuck I am unique to have this sensitivity (that's all that it is really) -- I am more sensitive than other people... This is not a bad thing or something to look down on... You have a responsibility to strengthen your immune system -- maybe do some research... Allergies are brought on by stress, psychological pressures... or lack of some inner source of dare I say "peace"... (you must find this yourself)

My life as a child was fucking easy as hell and as picture perfect as anyone could ask... so why I was having allergies who the fuck knows... but now I think I understand it -- I'm very very sensitive to my environment and this is a gift... Like any powerful weapon, you have to know how to wield it... or like a young jedi you will get fucked... where others can live life without much thought -- you are now faced with the forced issue of earning your strength with a deeper understanding of yourself... but the first step is to just do the obvious -- remove the allergens... and these are pretty standard -- mold, dust, pollen, pollution.

Lucky for me my parents helped me to battle this crap early in life by just keeping my house very clean and sterile... now I don't have problems unless I go to someone's house that is dusty (ie: shag carpet with the ceiling fan turned on or they have cats -- cats are the worst for allergies)

Another thing about allergies is you can experience them different ways -- not just sneezing as is the stereotype... You can have a skin reaction, fatigue, asthma, or whatever...

My mother has severe food, pet & seasonal allergies. She was raised on a farm so she was shocked to find out a few years ago that she was allergic to corn, eggs, dog dander & pollen (she was already allergic to penicillin - something which I inherited). She takes Allegra since Claritan don't do shit for her & we no longer have any dogs. She used to have bloody nose, congested and severely fatigued before taking Allegra.

In the past few years, I've been having bloody noses & headaches due to seasonal allergies. I'm dreading to go see an allergist due to the cost. Looks like I might have inherited her other allergies too.

When I was in junior high my allergies almost killed me. Had to go the emergency room and get some stuff pumped into my veins and was put on Oxygen.

These days my allergies are much better by I still sniffle a bit. Cats, dust, pollen, poison ivy, most other small animals, and a few other common allergies are what I suffer from.

good luck with whatver you go w/

my dog takes allergy shots and they seem to work for him.(it takes time to build up though)

Yes, a simple pill like allegra can work miracles. I hope you are not on a hmo like BLUE shield otherwise you going to have fun
Hey Honeyslut

Allegra, at least here in MI, only costs 40 bucks a month full price. I do have Blue Cross Bue Shield but I have their real insurance that we pay for ourselves. HMOs are pretty bad from what I hear. That does suck.

By the way, That Flonase gave me a nice ambulance ride to the hospital one night. I had a nose bleed that wouldn't stop no matter what we did. Turns out I had a week blood vesal up there that it caused to give way. lol THAT was fun. The product did work well though. I mean.....other than almost killing me.

Somebody post a nekid pic or something..........

Blue shield has been great until the last few years.

Allegra is $ 75 bucks here and probably it SHOULD be paid by my hmo since my blood pressure is high and I can't just take anything but claritin and claritin is the only over the counter to take with blood pressure pills and does not work..

My dad died of an enlarge heart at age 43 so I am not going to let an hmo mess with me like they did him..
