what scripts do you guys look for....?

Hey, I'm looking for some serious input. What types of scripts do you guys look for to help you run your business? What scripts would you pay for? What features would you want?

I ask this because I may decide to create a few scripts to sell to adult webmasters. Please give me your thoughts & ideas. I'm looking mianly for mid-size scripts only, not HUGE ones.

Hmm ... one that'll serve me breakfast in the morning, pay the bills, go to the bank to deposit checks, wipe my precious ass and oil my camshaft when I'm in need.

Yeah, I know, you all here can make funny comments. Could I possibly get some serious replies?

I believe your best bet would be to do custom jobs on request.

I do all of my own... mainly because nobody does ASP because of the misconception that W2K/IIS can't handle big loads or isn't stable.

Thank-you. And yes, that'd probably be the best. I just figured there might be a few things out there that most adult webmasters could use. Like dynamic gallery/gallery-generation scripts, etc.

I think most people believe, like myself, that PHP/MySQL is better because it's faster, free, opensource...

PHP / Perl / MySQL rock Simple, easy and stable. Ok, ok.. MySQL has it flaws but other than that it's f*cking great!

Eew, perl.. unreadable, slow and stresses the server too much. Oh and I'd pick mysql over any other database server any time.

Cloaking scripts , that have a built in page generator that can create thousands of totally different pages based on templates and keywords.

Any type of script that can automate site building, such as a script that can create thousands of freesites for SE's built on the server, by templates and random tags that can insert random ads and other variables. Any such script has to be able to make each site unique enough so that it's not detectable by the SE's that the pages are script generated.

Hey Sic.

Your a bud so ill give you some honest input based on my own slim experiences.

One project could be a TGP Trade script. Ofcource you dont have an adult site, so skimming hits would be useles to you, and you wont make out well charging for it at first, so not sure how that would work out. But i know your skills and would love to see you tackle that one.

Another good idea? So many people are into TGP's. Maybe a gallery rotator?

Another good idea? Make a banner rotator and management center. You will be able to place a code in various spots on your multipage site that will pull a banner from a database. It will also keep track of impressions and clicks sent. It will also have capability to put a timeframe on the banner, meaning if i buy a banner spot on your site for 3 weeks ... my banenr will automatically drop out of the database after 3 weeks is up. Or if i buy a spot that includes say 300k impressions, you only show it 300k times, no more no less. Naturally this whole cake is topped with a nice an clean admin center to manage it all.

I think the above idea would sell very well, every pay site has a need for this, and any TGP can make use of it as well. I think i would buy one personally.

Hope this helps and buzz me on icq for any details needed.

Spoken like a true newbie. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it bad. I guarantee I can write anything in Perl that will perform as well or better than anything you can do in PHP.

Everyone does PHP these days. Why do you think that is? PHP is VERY easy to understand and anyone can learn it. Perl isn't nearly as newbie friendly as PHP but as far as your remark about stressing the server, that is total horseshit.

Sic,

Most webmasters have SOME skills with coding, so any small projects they need will most likely be an easy task for them to knock out for themself.

If your looking to make your mark like tdscripts.com did, then youll need to find a "need" and fill it, preferably a "need" thats not so easily filled by the webmaster himself.

What are you talking about? PHP is made to run on webservers, perl isn't, its easier because it's a better language, faster to code in, making the scripts cheaper.

Perl stresses the server like hell, I KNOW what I'm talking about. Perl has just more functionality (not only CGI) and that's the only reason some people learn perl instead of PHP. I don't have that need, I code in Delphi (and Pascal) also.

A good flexible gallery script with the ability to handle thousands of images with ease. Support for updates built-in. The script should be able to display images across many niches or categories for organization. The script should be able to support future updates from a pool or other method.

Perl is a great language, there should be no doubt about that.

Comparisons of PHP vs Perl
http://www.netconcepts.com/news/php_vs_perl.php

One of PHP's developers stated:
PHP 4 was faster than mod_perl/DBI in this benchmark, but we can't say for sure that PHP is always faster. Generally, PHP 4 is extremely fast, and is usually at least as fast as Perl, and more often it's faster.

The guys at Gossamer-Threads have said mod_perl can be much faster if you run it with an apache daemon of it's own seperate from the one that serves webpages, etc.

To me, the important thing is using what I'm familiar with and can get the job done the easiest with. I'm much less concerned with saving a few cpu cycles or milliseconds of speed.

Misconception? They tried running Hotmail on Windows software and couldn't handle it. It currently uses FreeBSD I believe.

I realize that this post is kind of old...but...to clear this up for anyone who cares:

A perl cgi is executed and interpreted with every request...slow.

A perl script executed over mod_perl...Fast.

A c cgi is executed with every request...slow as shit!

A c application running as a server or process...Fast as shit.

A php script executed on a server with php installed as a CGI, executed with every request. Slow as god aweful shit.

A php script on a server with php installed as an apache module is parsed by an already running process. Much faster than c as a CGI...almost comparable to a c process (because the php module is a process).

An apache module written properly in (any real language)...Faster than all of the above.

Don't get suckered into buying something "c"

Anyone that makes a statement like "php is slow" is an idiot, or is just trying to sell you something "php is slow" is too general of a statement to be made by someone who knows anything. Someone who says that could know a lot...but they're trying to sell something

Someone who says that could know a lot...but they're trying to sell something
not to mention that getting a custom php app is a lot cheaper than getting the exact same app written in c

If we knew, would we really tell you?

I think they may have managed to move it to windows servers now.

What about a script that keeps track of users that just download our shit and never buy anything - if you can figure that one out your sure to make millions!

Humm...

I just wrote an XML Web Service that probes a domain for Web Server information...

http://www.ealabs.com/webservices.aspx

hotmail.com is showing IIS.

IIS only runs on Windows.
