"one small step for (a) man"?

"...one small step for a man..." or "...one small step for a man..."?

Check out www.nasa.gov's intro. I thought they said that the "a" was just "glitched" out of the recording.

I've never heard "one small step for man" with an "a" in it..
Heard Armstrong's transmission los of times, don't think there was an "a" in the sentence.
Doesn't sound like there is a gap in the recording.

You must be really bored to think about this?

I remember seeing on some show about space exploration that Armstrong did mess up the original line somehow.

But it obviously wasn't too bad.....

The official story is that static eliminated the "a." Unofficially, he flubbed his lines.

Personally, I am willing to cut anyone who walked on the moon a little slack and believe the official story.

If you listen to the recording backwards it sounds like he says "man will space walk".
