free antivirus program

I am considering using bitdefender's free antivirus but it seems to get mixed reviews. anyone using that and happy with it? if not, what is the 'best' free antivirus out there?

i am currently using comodo but read about low detection rates.

I've been using Kaspersky for about five years now and have had zero problems. It's around $70 a year for three computers.

I'm running free AVG on one of my computers for two years now and it has had no problems, but I very rarely download anything new to it.

Microsoft Security Essentials has done good by me so far, Never thought it would, but have not had an issue since using it.

Avast is good. Just dont install grime fighter or software updater. Actually i just install the bare minimum. No reason for all the bloatware these companies try to include.

Used Kaspersky for years and then dumped it for Bitdefender paid version few years ago, runs flawless and they always hit me with coupons right before it expires, just renewed at $34.95 instead of the listed $80+ for 3 computers.

I own a computer repair company, we never recommend using a free antivirus. Eset, Kaspersky or Vipre are the best imho. For a free antivirus, ones as good as another but Panda is probably the least annoying.

I highly recommend AVAST Free Antivirus, I dropped Kaspersky Paid Edition and Bitdefender Paid Edition for the free AVAST Antivirus because I absolutely loved it (and the boot up scan).

You do realize that the free editions use the same virus definition updates right?

I use bitdefender internet security and im happy with it, received a deal protecting me for 5 years for the price of 1 year. It's light in my opinion and none intrusive.

i'd consider paying for bitdefender but their odd number of computers your allowed to use it on sucks. i need 4, not 3 and you apparently can only get discounts with the lowest option. oh well..

personally i think paid antivirus should be a one time charge and not limited to only so many computers. i hate paying yearly.
