Of course fine tuning a site with hundreds of thousands of pageviews is one thing. I run analytics for small businesses and help fine tune some of their strategies.

I see some sites with as much as 7-8 analytics services, is that really necessary. Different analytic services play a different specific role.

I like clicky.com, the oktoberfest in town has received closing on 1000 visits of just local town folk today. Feels pretty cool when something you built help the locals find out what's going on.

Of course I dive into it more than this.

If nothing else have GA so google knows your site isn't shit for the consumer.

Been using Piwik for over a year perfect solutions. my stats and none one peeking at it like google

Some sites have GA just so google knows if your site is even worth a shit. If someone goes to your site and leaves immediately, it probably doesn't have good value.
GA lets google know if you're site is relevant beyond just backlinks.

For the most part I could care less what people peer at for my sites, as long as no customers are violated and they look for anything they can to do something malicious to me.
