Project Question - Build now or wait for design?
I'm starting a project using wordpress, and I'm wondering if it's best to start building content now and changing the design later or just wait until I have it designed perfectly first?
I'll be paying for a premium design, it's a huge project, I want it done right. Will I have any negative seo, or pissed off users if I change a design midway through my project? My guess is you're probably to say start building content anyway. With wordpress, you can simply change the design with a click of the mouse, so I assume switching over to the new design won't cause too many problems. Thoughts? Thanks. |

You could also just start building everything and not have the site indexed until you are done - but I don't see why a design change would piss anyone off, unless you made the site worse with it

Some of it depends on how much your content is planned to visually integrate with the design itself. On some sites, in a way content *is* design. Others not so much.
Personally, if it were a new project and I truly "want it done right" I'd wait until at least a basic wireframe of the site was created, to have an idea of at least the layout & dimensions. Also you're not totally clear whether you mean producing the content, or just purchasing/selecting it, or actually populating the site with it... edit: Yeah, just turn off SE indexing while it's in development as Markul says. |

Depends.
If you want to be SEO value before hand, maybe start on it before the design. However, if the design might affect what you are building, do the design first - no sense doing the work only to have to change it all.

Move fast, keep it simple but professional, take an MVP approach, focus on content and test market viability, then build and improve from there.

Thanks guys! Very refreshing to see such wonderful responses.
I'll make the best professional and cheapest startup and make a decision soon after. My project posts will be compatible regardless of theme, so I think it'll be okay. |

I always have the same problem and my theory is to get it online and get the SEO building.
I've got a project that is probably 3 months out and I've just put up a daily photo blog - it has a couple of hundred unique a day for an hours work. Nice starter traffic when I launch in 3 months time. Just my 2 cents. Dave

You people are all fucking retarded. Have WHOEVER build it and YOU create a development environment LOCALLY so you can see what it will look like online and tweak it from there.
This shit isn't rocket science. ![]() ![]() I'd personally wait until you have it acceptable where it is you want it and then blast it all online.. then again, that's just me and I have never made 1 dollar in this industry ![]() |
