The Minutemen

I figure only a select few will know about or care about this thread. So I'm watching Austin City Limits concert online last night (it's a friggen zoo in South Austin this past weekend) and watched Iggy and the Stooges ripping it up. Totally had forgotten that Mike Watt was their bass player now and then also remembered I never did see their documentary "We Jam Econo" when it came out like 7 years ago. So I sat and watched it last night. Brought back a ton of memories. Never did get to see them play live (D. Boon died when I was a senior in High school) but DID get to enjoy watching fIREHOSE play live in '91. Got to speak at length with George Hurley... really fuckin cool guy. Anyway... if you like the Minutemen at all I highly recommend this doc.

Great band, great movie. Heartbreaking.

Mike Watt is a punk rock wizard, such a nice dude, easy to talk to and always inviting.

Love the Minutemen. Perhaps my favorite punk band.

It is a great movie. I was also too young to see the Minutemen live, but also saw fIREHOSE several times and interviewed them in 92. They were a cool band, a lot of fun and I have always had a lot of respect for Mike Watt. He has influenced a ton of people and probably many more who don't even realize that he created the sound they are now playing.

I am not yet thirty, so I missed the Minutemen/Firehose boat completely. Was fortunate enough to communicate with Mike a few times and catch him on tour in the last fifteen or so years.

Love the Minutemen...
I use to claim (and still do on occasion) if it weren't for fIREHOSE, there'd be no Red Hot Chili Peppers...

Umm... you mean if it weren't for the Minutemen... right? fIREHOSE came after RHCP.

I used to write for a music magazine called The Rocket. It was pretty big here in the Northwest and got very big when the scenes exploded in the early 90's. That was a fun job. listening to music, drinking and hanging out for a living.

I was more of a fIREHOSE fan than a Minutemen fan. They were great in the mid-90's when I saw them at a club in Manhattan on one of their last tours.
