Android and iPhone spelled the death of an era for both them and Palm...

Makes you wonder why they don't put Android on their phones if they want to stay in business.

Blackberry will always have it's niche. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Exactly. Android's gonna eat iPhone's lunch as phones get cheaper and cheaper and more powerful. Open source FTW.

The list of things the Blackberry CAN'T do compared to the Android or iPhone is probably longer than the list of things it can do.

Yeah. The niche of dinosaurs who will wake up within the next 5 years when they realize what they've been missing out on.

RIM was a great innovator back in the day but it's been bloated/non-innovative for the past ~6 years. They have no chance competing with Google or Apple who are winning the talent war over RIM hands down.

Playbook is a great example of how big they will continue to fail. I mean. WTF were they thinking.

for business the blackberry is still the best option. The battery of an iphone and android phone just can't compete with it.
Also the bbm blows any current alternative away.
I use both blackberry and android and these days I'm leaning towards the android because of the browser that blows in the blackberry

Yep, blackberries remind me of the razor. Everyone thought they're be around forever. Then better phones came along and they went extinct.

Blackberries cater to a business marketplace more than consumers. Always have and will have a very strong following for a long time to follow.

The BBM service seems to keep a lot of people tied in to not moving from Blackberry.

This will change as RIM rolls out the service to the other phones/carriers.

Sure but in the UK if you want to use internet and BBM on Blackberry you have to pay £5 per month for blackberry service.

Isnt Android stuff free?

The US gov has its own blackberry network.. RIM will just goto a gov only solution once its public market dies off.

Case in point android and iphone will never be allowed inside any FBI, CIA or NSA building. Why? because camera phones are not allowed. Hence why blackberry has versions of their phones without cameras.

I have had a Blackberry for years and it is the fastest phone I have ever had for replying to an email or sending a text. The Android and Iphone do much more, but it takes longer to do them in my opinion. I just need a good phone, email and text. The rest is fluff that I never use.

that's a non sense, tell me one thing iphone can't do that bb does in a business world? if anything bb is very limited compare to what iphone can do... just as an example, can bb connect to a server using windows remote desktop app? I hate apple but I'm not blind like most people

You're right. Plus business users probably would PAY MORE for a completely businesscentric phone. Make it a mobile business productivity center

1 thing ? Keep battery going for 2-3 days

connect to windows desktop app ? Yes I connected to both windows and mac os.

1 more thing ? real keyboard + touchscreen, yep!

I'm not an Iphone hater at all, I had 3 of them, also had 2 androids and a blackberry (in the last 2-3 years), they all got their good and bad sizes, but if mobility and reliability is important then there is nothing that can really compete with a blackberry.

Currently I use Android at home and Blackberry when travelling

FYI - Here's from an email thread with friends yesterday regarding the stock. I haven't researched it at all, but from what it looks like, LEAP puts would be a good play.

--
I don't know but I stradlled rimm today and made 6800 off of 1k. Rimm is dying.
--
What a disaster RIMM has been. I shorted it a few months ago and used a put spread and made a ton. Owning long puts straight out on this is probably a great idea.
--
RIMM still has overseas growth potential, but they are definitely hurting. Down under 30 from high of 70's in March. The put I bought yesterday expires today anyway so it was a one day play, but Rimm long term may be in trouble.

One of the biggest cons of blackberry is they make u pay monthly mandatory bis or bes fee. Without it phone is useless. I love the feel of a bb in hand but when I learned that android has push I switched.

Bb will die unless they stop charging for the mandatory blackberry service plan

I hope so. I got a Blackberry Torch - and it is the biggest shit phone ever. The touch screen is extremely inprecise, and the phone goes off by itself at all times. An absolute piece of crap for 600-700 Euro list price...
