Trapped inside your little tourist box of Parque Lleras you'll find many people that feel that way. There is a pretty big segregation between the rich and the poor in Medellin, and "most everyone" as you put it, would be the poor as they far outweigh the rich and very small middle class in numbers. Most will praise Pablo Escobar based on ignorance, fame, or because they or family members/friends, 'worked for', or knew someone that 'worked for' Pablo Escobar. They'll say that but who knows just how connected their shady dealings actually were. Pablo had some legal building/court burned down which at the time included thousands of records of crimes/legal processes from other people, who had to be let off the hook or even taken out of jail! Not something they would've forgotten about any time soon. Besides the soccer fields and all that other stuff, which of course, would not help much in the long run. However with or without Pablo, they still do a fine job of exploiting, underpaying, overworking, and overlooking the lower class. Go to where Pablo Escobar helped out ghettos and things like that and see what they have to say, not in Parque Lleras with your cargo shorts on and flip flops looking like a faggot asking the people he terrorized what they think about him.
I wasn't here during that time but it must've been absolutely nuts. I was lucky enough to start living here before the huge gringo influx, before the photomultas (traffic cameras), drinking driving laws, and many other things that have changed over the years. I remember one of the first ATMs I used, the bank and the ATM itself still had bullet holes in them. I've owned two bulletproof vehicles here. At least a thousand more crazier stories that I won't talk about.

Too bad there are people there because the natural surrounding are amazing. People just fuck everything up.
You wanna talk about the "vibe" of the city. All the rich live in guarded buildings. Cars are checked for bombs by security (look under the car with mirrors and check the trunk) when they go into the mall parking.
There are more bomb sniffing dogs in the city than pet dogs...just open your eyes and look around. Sure there are drugs and whores there but you can find those everywhere so big fucking deal.
Guess you have to pay a desperate puta to get your cock sucked...something to be proud of? I don't think so.

Most of the time I do not like haggling over price. But I found it was kinda normal to almost have fun with negotiating the price, time and service.
We finally agreed on 90,000 Colombian pesos for 3 hours. As soon as she got into my hotel room she went straight to the mini bar and opened a bottle of Ron Medellin local rum.
Since it was still early afternoon, I asked if it was too early to be drinking. She said it is never too early for drinking and sex.
It was a good session, we used the google translator to communicate and she added all her friends on Facebook to my account who she thought would be interested to meet me. So all in all it was worth it and a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Hanging around Parque Lleras at night it was very easy to meet girls. Even with out speaking a word of Spanish. I used the Google translator app.
After I got a few girls Facebook accounts I was able to add their friends. Again using the Google app I would chat them up. I invited this girl over to my hotel and with in a few hours of adding her to Facebook she was at my hotel.
I didn't know she had all these tattoos, so I was kinda surprised !

Ok. I am a tourist and I stay around Parque Lleras. So as a tourist, where do you suggest I stay ?
The info I wrote about Pablo Escobar, is not my personal opinion. It was the info from the tour guide, from the tour I went on. The name of the company is called Real City Walking Tours. If you want you can take up your gripe with them for misleading tourists.
Yes I wear cargo shorts when I travel because I need a place to carry my condoms, lube and disinfectant soap when visiting whore houses. I not wear flip flops, but I can understand tourists on vacation may want to feel as comfortable as possible and to them flip flops are comfortable. I can see how people who have to go to work can be mad that people on vacation don't need to dress up and go to work every day.
Is it good that there is a "gringo influx" ? Or would you rather "gringos" stay away from Medellin ?

... and why is he so mad I took pictures of the slums when he even says the poor far outweigh the rich. I was just taking pictures of what I thought were normal houses and neighborhoods. I wasn't really trying to "exploit" the image of poor peoples houses.
I guess I am part of the gringo influx that he doesn't like. I can understand when people don't like expats moving to a city and making prices go up. But from my travels, I have always known there are lower prices for locals and higher prices for "gringos". I don't mind paying "gringo" prices and I never demand local prices if I don't live there full time.

I don't think locals totally embraced the "Narco Tourism" industry. Of course it is easy to buy coke in Parque Lleras, but it is not like they set up small coke bars.
From what I understand is the Pablo Escobar tours are focused on Hostels and Lower end hotels. I don't think the tours are heavily promoted by the Ministry of Commerce, industry and tourism of Colombia.
