Do people actually make real money off blogs?

I know its 2009 but it still don't understand how you can make money from blogs.

I understand the blogs have many ads and can convert fairly well however where does the traffic come from exactly?

I know there are a few adult blog directories that webmasters can submit their blogs but how much traffic is that going to bring you exactly? 10 hits a day for the first couple of weeks ?

I also don't see how a blog would make it way up there in the top 10 ranks of google. So the main traffic source can't be from google.

I wanted to sample a blog by purchasing one from the "buy/sell forum" however its seems that blogs getting 5-10 visits a day are going for $50.

So can anyone shed some light into how one can possibly make some money with blogs?

The blogs are mine gold if you work propertly.Most people say that this kind of CMS is much better indexed by Google.Completly wrong.A free site or a TGP isn't anymore difficult to get indexed than any other page. It all depends on its construction and who is linking to it, just like anything else.
Google doesn't care if you use WP,drupal or static pages. Inbound links, content and on-site optimization are what matters.
Wordpress are more SE friendly than most people can build simply because they don't know much about optimization.
Blogging takes patience and tons of it and time but in the long run you can build a network of blogs that can generate money.
A good advice is to start up with around 10 handwritten blogs and grow progressive.

Having a good blog is damn near like owning a piece of real estate. All you need is good text (update as often as you can), good sponsors to promote, a few links pointed at it, and you will see some coming in from your blog.

i mean: very nice ratio but dont wait TONS of sales a day...

I know some people that make good money with blogs mostly from SEO traffic. It is hard to get much traffic by doing blog traffic trades. But if you make a nicely-keyworded blog with a good PR and nice backlinks, you can get some nice traffic from google, yahoo, etc. I know a guy that made a nice viagra blog and optimised it for the search engines. It gets about 1000 hits from google a day, and that blog alone makes him like $10-100/day.

I agree. Many people can generate income by blogging. Start reading some content with regards on make money online and expand your knowledge about that.

Build a network from blogs like any other thing. Start with 1 or 2 and get them loaded and going with some traffic and then add.

Can you make money on a blog? Yes, 100% But not if you follow any standard "formula" or plug and play features. If you take a SEO blog that is at least remotely well designed, and make original text heavy posts, you can easily make money from it.

If you are the kind of person who likes to ramble on and on about seemingly any subject then blogging is so for you because search engines love text and the more you can ramble on about things the better it will be for you with getting traffic from those search engines.

are we talking about mainstream blog or adult blog? for mainstream blog traffic is really hard to earn but if you are a great blogger and a great seo everything is possible it is al about hardwork and patience.

Yes you can. There is plenty of money to be made in every aspect, but you need to try and take a unique approach to it. You also need to have the right blog for what you are doing. Yes a simple blog theme from the WP people will do it, and they are free.

But make sure to match it as best you can.

even in slow times my blogs still make 3-4 sales per day. They are over 4 years old and handwritten, no RSS. so yes, the answer is yes, people still make money off of blogs.

I have a blog I've been working on and I've accomplished to get on the first page of google when you type keywords like "latina bbw", "phat juicy ass", "amateur booty", "52 inch ass" are a few. I think that's good and my blog is growing everyday.

So my opinion is blogs do have potential to make $$$ if you stay dedicated
