Vista Question
my members that are using vista are having trouble viewing the (.wmv) videos in the member's area. when they left-click the video link it takes them to an error page but they can right-click to "save as" and download it to watch.
is there a patch to fix this? i searched the web but couldn't find much info other than a bunch of stuff from vista haters. i've been told that i need to use an .flv or embedded media player to fix the problem. any other options? thanks! |

don't know but could try to help
I'm going to run into the same problem, as I'm opening a site similar to yours but in a different niche, in a few weeks or so.
I'd be happy to help workout this problem as best I can right now if you send me a members login to give it a go. The front page loads on my xp, but you already know that. basically free to you for me to at least give it a try. thanks brian donteattuna AT yahoo DOT com with no spaces. I'll re-install vista now, so we can get going on a fix. I had uninstalled it do to bugs like this, but I guess we HAVE to face them now. |

i'm sure they will come out with a patch or service pack in the future to fix it but at the moment it's a real pain in the ass for my members.
so now they have to wait until the entire movie loads before it will play. i wanted the stream affect so that's why i never chose the mpeg format. to fix it now, i can create a new window to open with an embedded player but i like how it works with XP, you left-click the link and the player automatically opens or you can right-click to download the video. so far i haven't received too many complaints but i'm sure as members get new machines that come with vista they will be complaining about it. i thought about giving the option of streaming .flv videos but i'll have to convert 600 videos to that format. |
