Downloading Linux

I have a need to mess with linux, but every time I go to www.linux.org to download it, all links are dead! Does anyone know of a free linux download? Legal ones only! I am building a server for my company and windows blows compared to linux. Thanks for any help!

Try these sites:

a) Freshmeat.net
Freshmeat maintains one of the largest directories of open source Linux, Unix, and cross-platform software.

b) Ibiblio.org
Ibiblio archives more than 171 gigabytes of Linux programs and documentation freely available for download via FTP and/or WWW access.

c) LinuxApps
This is a comprehensive directory of Linux downloads.

d) SourceForge.net
This is one of the largest repositories of open source code and applications available on the Internet.

Must read this page

www.linux.org/dist/download_info.html

Do let us know, if it helped you!!

Do googling also!

Fedora

mirrors fedoraproject org/publiclist

Debian

www debian org/mirror/list

Ubuntu

www ubuntu com/getubuntu/mirror

Slackware

www slackware com/getslack/

If your new to Linux I suggest going for the Ubuntu Desktop edition and just play around with that one for a while, you can install all the servers you want from the package manager.

Download some e-book Beginners, advances, guides to what software you want to install/configure and how to secure your server.

You could always try Centos. Though I would recommend Centos 4.x
Best of Luck!

If you need something just for your desktop I would recommend you Ubuntu. It's user friendly. ;)

drjones: Well, if it comes to Ubuntu it's pretty easy distro and there is no need to buy books to learn this OS. There are also some user communities like ubuntuforums.org where people are always willing to help solve your problems/ answer your questions.

Thanks guys! I've had a few books on Linux a while but haven't gotten around to reading them till now. I got Linux desktop but need a OS for a server I am building to speed up my work flow. I downloaded free BSD and centOS the other day and have been playing around with them on a temporary machine. I still don't know jack shit about em yet though
