HD is not big yet nor is it cost effective. |

HD is the future, no doubt about that. some of the larger sites are producing in HD but i'm not sure how cost effective it is at this point in time. the HD cams are very affordable right now so i would definately go that route.
as far as cameras go, i have to agree with buzz on his choice. i really like sony and i wanted to get the HDR-FX1 but i shoot and star in all our videos so i didn't want a large camera. if you've ever tried to fuck while holding a camera you'll understand what i mean. i wanted something small but produced great quality so after many hours researching cameras i decided to buy the sony HDR-HC1. this camera works great! it's light, super easy to use and is packed with nice features. besides, the HDR-FX1 is around $3,500 and the HDR-HC1 runs around $1,400. obviously the HDR-FX1 has more features for the prosumer but i doubt that you'd be able to tell the difference in video quality. cannon has a new HD camera out that's really small also, so that might be worth looking at. before buying any expensive equipment like this you should always do your research. google the camera reviews to find out what the pros and cons are before you buy anything. |

Sony HDR-SR1E. Still pretty small for POV shooting and can automatically take stills while you shoot video. Big plus. AR+

I was high on the Sony A1U because of it's small size and external mic etc. Then I tested it out at my local dealer and was dissapointed with the grainy picture quality. Now I'm leaning towards the FX1 even though I prefer smaller cameras. Much better quality on the FX1.

Disagree, HD cams are in the 1500-2000 range. Might be a wise choice to start with a new format.
