Front Page 4.0

hello everyone,

I am new to the business and have been reading the posts about WYSIWYG software. I am still getting to grips with HTML, & would be the first to admit that it would take me ages to write a web page in notepad.

Does front-page version 4.0 do the same functions as you're suggesting with the other software? Any positive posts on this will be appreciated thank you.

Front Page writes really shitty code. You are beter off never going there. Dreamweaver... IS the way to go... download a free trial version at http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/trial/

Time spent learning Dreamweaver will pay off a thousand times over. Don't waste your time with FrontShit. But it's also a good idea to learn to hand code html and java at a minimum... if you get past that and feel like you can take some more, look into Perl code, PHP, ASP, Coldfusion, Flash, Shockwave..... the list grows daily with new stuff being invented all the time. As a beginner, your best bet right now is to learn Dreamweaver and get familiar with some graphics programs like Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro, Adobe.... whichever you think you will be most comfortable using. Personally, I use Fireworks and PSP for most everything graphic... but it's always nice to have some extra programs for those unusual projects.

Hope this helps a little.

I also use frontpage, and then clean up the extra crap that it adds. It's not all that bad, though, just 3 meta tags.

I have tried Dreamweaver, Homesite, and Hotdog, but I just don't see the big deal. I do appreciate the power of Photoshop for graphics - my sis is a graphic designer and she's taught me a couple things about it.

I do use notepad for PHP programming, but I am getting ready to try UltraEdit32 for that.

My two cents,

I'm going to stick up for frontpage here... I use FP 2000 and it works fine. I never really cared for Dreamweaver. And for any graphic work you definitely want to check out Adobe Photoshop, its pretty much the industry standard.

but do remember, don't overuse and misuse photoshop. The files you make with adobe are very large.
When making logo's you can better use vector graphic programs like macromedia fireworks and freehand.

Front page can be told not to use the extra code if you tell it not to by setting up preferences

Photoshop is awesome for Logos to they can be done and made very small you have set your save setting

I personally use Save for web and save with the Jpg medium and a few other little tweeks...

Tanker, exactly how do you turn of those preferances. Better yet, how do you prevent frontpage from making those vtf files. I don't use exts so I don't need them. Frontpage is the best at copy and pasting large folders and files because it updates fast. It also loads big webs faster than others. View source on some of the big tgps. You would be surprised who uses Front Page.
