Porn webmasters: how much money do you make?

Hi,

My first post here. I have been reading the forum with great interest for a while now.

Anyway, regardless of the kind of site you operate (TGP, Gallery, Subscription, etc.) or where you fit in the chain of porn production, distribution, and marketing, how much money, roughly, do you make per month and how long have you been in the game? It seems to me that most of you average around $2-4K a month. Is this above, below, or right at the mark?

I'm just curious. I want to get started in this business and wanted to take a rough poll.

Cheers and thanks for fucking having me!

First Id like to say this post will get flames to high heaven more than likely as there are many people here who love to argue about everything. =) Thats said with love!

I apologize for any typos in advance but Im just ranting this out quickly.

The amount in return is determined by the aount of time and work you put in obviously. I have not met anyone yet in person that is making a living SOLELY on tgps.. There is usually another business attached.

Our site for example makes at this point slightly under $1000 a month, but we havent had the advertising yet that would bring us over the top. Obviously we make our money from our webstore.

But then again we are not a tgp. I have met many peopel who make money on traffic they sell rather than the money made through affiliates. Not to badmouth affiliates because I have worked with a large amount of great ones.

The money in this industry anymore is found mainly in either content providing, Traffic Services, or adult shopping.

Content providing is either paid content for another site to use, or charging the public to view your own content. This is the most popular form of revenue in the idustry, whether it be in the form of a website ot a DVD at the local Uncle Lou's Hump Palace.

Traffic Services are a close second in the industry. This is where my background comes from. Degrees in marketing and sociology I believe I have a true knowlege of how business works relating to the consumer and the provider. Traffic is a marketing tool that allows never before known of customers to your already existsing website.
Most of the time this can be done through niche guidence but in some instances its cheaper to get a broad varitey of traffic instead of a niche specific trafffic. Either way this is important to many types of adult sites!

Adult Shopping like Content providing is a multi billion dollar buisiness, this is to say that It would be in your best interests to offer a customer other things besides pics and movies, and the best thing for this is Adult novelties and toys.

The weakness of 90% of all tgps and "free" sites out int he markests today are the lack of options people have. People want variety and options and since the advent of places like Ebay, Ubid and QVC peopel want more impulse buying options. Having an adult webstore can net you a lot higher revenue than the tgpp or free site alone.

In this industry not many people are conserned about customer loyalty, they are more interested in quick cash than a happy RETURNING customer. Loyal Customers are money makers for you and your business.

Gay sites and services do better for the most part than straight services because based on many surveys Gay men are more apt to business over and over again with company they feel confortable with and has provided them a good service.

Any person should feel the same way when you offer excellent service.

What ever you do in your endevours make sure you put the customer first as we do and you can't help but find success.

If you want a URL of a great service that can get you great cash, and you may have learned something from this now online lecture please click the link:

SEX TOY COMISSION 30%!

Thanks for reading and I seriously hope you look into the customer service side of your business. Our company can also help with you that as well, if you are interested..

Thanks again!

Guys,

Pornicopia: Thanks for your insightful post.

I have thought about providing original content, one which I feel still has some room to grow (pun intended ;)). Are there services which buy and place your content, as opposed to me running a site with that content and getting traffic through TGP placement? That is, I want to produce the material and have someone sell it for me. What are such services called?

MBS: What do you do that nets you $7K a month? Where do you fit in the chain and how long have you been at it?

Cheers!

newbies should expect to be in the negatives in the first few months, usually they quit after realizing its not as easy as they thought.

I understand that. Few businesses rarely start out making tons of cash the moment they are opened. I operate two other businesses, but thought it would be fun and challenging to try this one, as well. Maybe the people who give up are those who don't understand that it's not all fu nand games, but actual work.

But if anyone could answer my questions in my previous post, I'd appreciate that.

Thank you Karen

Thru your post I was reassured that there are many ethical people in porn. Anh Tran is a hot babe! I signed up with your site and with your sponsor, WantedList. It is all about marketing, networking and being smart. Translating into the languages of emerging markets. There's a lot of creativity available on the marketing side. I'm only beginning the development of my (primarily non nude Asian) blogsite and am learning so much from the posts here. Thanks again!

Lets see... last month I almost made enough to buy a Bic Mac. This month my goal is to make enough for a Big Mac, Fries and a Super Sized drink. Next month I might make enough for a Double Quarter w/ Cheese. Then next month who knows

Streaming videos: How to?

I can't seem to get a handle on how to stream videos. You know, videos you can't download but just "click here to play" and they play in the page.

Do these movies typically take up less bandwidth than allowing the surfer to actually download?

Is this hard to set up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Even though I am new here I have had some success in online marketing. But I am new to adult business.

One thing for sure is that like any other business, it takes time and effort to built something successful. One you create a fundation you can always ad on things to grow your income. The keyword here is "Consitancy"

Go to mainstream, you won't survive in adult.

All the mainstream webmasters look at us and think, "I wish I was in there place".

Adult is totally more competitive world.

Heres some "truth" for you:

1. The money is directly relational to the time and energy you invest.
2. The money varies greatly depending on what service you are offering.

With that said, you must understand that this is a loaded question. Most people making real money in adult dont want to tell you they are making real money. Many post inflated figures and say "My sponsor in my sig got me....." and are just wanting you to sign up under their account so they have a chance at getting a cut.

In the end, this is a business. Its a very hard, competitive, cut-throat, demanding, and oversaturated business. The good news is that if you can fight past all this, it can be a very fun and lucrative. Do what you enjoy, work hard at it, try to do it better than everyone else, and you will do well. Good luck.

I think there is alot of things that can go wrong. You always have to have a backup plan to fall back on if you want to survive. I on average make about 5k to 9k a month through various affiliate programs. I also spend a significant amount to make that money.

My own web venture is still on the works. hopefully I can kick off my own thing pretty soon
