This is a sad state of affairs. This guy was from my area here in Peoria,IL. I'm also a Gulf War veteran.
I've been telling people this for the past 2 years.
This mission got green lighted way too soon out of intel targets that have been on the radar for quite some time. They are Al Queda targets in Africa.
There is no blame on the Obama administration for this at all. There is a huge list of compiled targets that are on the books at all times. These are not mission ready programs. It's just like identifying which targets are possible for future missions.
This target should have been moved into an active assessment program for more intel gathering and then have a laid out strategy for an OP. This takes months.
Trump took one of these out of the playbook and threw it at the Generals and said go do this now basicallly.....with no intel backing or current assets on the ground to asses it. That's why it got fucked up.
Trump is a complete douchebag and this young Seals life is on his shoulders...

As a retired US Marine, I find the Commander in Chiefs words appalling...To not take responsibility for the mission that resulted in the loss of an American service member is a shirking of responsibility. To further blame the previous administration is in my opinion beneath the dignity of the office of the President and the American people. HE signed the order for the mission to proceed. If i, as a platoon leader would have taken this position upon the loss of a member of my unit whom I was responsible for, I would have been court martialed after a lengthy inquiry of the facts. How dare HE take this stance. Mr Owens, as well as the American military and people have every right to demand an inquiry of what occurred, to include the present CIC remarks which were inappropriate.Comment

No it wasn't. Categorically false. This operation was one of many that are always on the books for potential mission status. There are literally hundreds of them across the globe.
They require further review as well as asset intel on the ground, combined with well though out mission planning from the military. Trump said fuck to that and took it from the books to the game and skipped everything in between.
This mission should have never been green lighted that quick.

Yeah, the fucking asset gathering and potential targeting assessment was started under Obama. This was not an active operation or mission that had any planning done for it by the Obama admin. It was strictly an intel asessment.
This isn't a hard concept to understand.
Trump took the playbook and pulled something out it, gave HIS orders to create a mission out of it and pushed it to happen before it should have, and failed.
Absolutely nothing to do with the Obama administration.

How they move from intelligence gatherings, to assets on the ground, to full mission status. I on the other hand as a combat veteran who has engaged in multiple OPs, understand it completely.

The US military has plans for everything. We have plans to invade the UK, Mexico, and Canada. We also have a large stack of smaller operations always on the drawing board.
This wasn't a plan that Obama approved of. If Obama approved of this plan, it would have happened months ago. Instead, it was one of dozens of plans drawn up by the military. The Trump administration pulled it off the shelf, and gave the go order, and it went bad.
