Each requested made to the server is a hit. If you had 10 images on 1 html page, you'll be effectively making 11 hits (images+page). This value is near useless in determining traffic on your website, at least as a beginner.
Pageviews is perhaps a bit more interesting. This is the number of times a visitor on your website has viewed a page. Unique visitors is the number of different visitors who've read/watched your website.
