Sub domain any good?
Hi yall
So far my sites are on sponsor sub domains. Does this hurt ranking and traffic at all? Can I do better with my own domain used on my sponsors that do offer sub domains? Can I buy my own domain and use it without any hosting so I can use it with sponsors that offer both types of site accounts?

Sometimes it can hurt you but sometimes it can help you a lot (in case that the domain has good reputation/rankings etc...)
You could buy a domain name and do CNAME to the subdomain... this way you would keep their hosting but just use your domain name...

It's a very bad idea to host with a sponsor and even worse idea to use domain name of sponsor. It leaves you out of the control of your traffic. But let's go into specifics of subdomain use as that was the question. So for example if sponsor decide to cut you out or close affiliate program then you lose all your work you put to promote it. If you use your own name you can always switch to other sponsor and keep the traffic (money).

You should get your own domain to have full control. I heard many webmasters with free hosted subdomains that got deleted lots of subdomains without a warning by hoster. Months of work for nothing.
