It's only really an ultra orthodox custom. A LOT of people have cold sores on their lips. Yes it's an STD but it's primarily from kissing although generally herpes on the lips tends to be HSV1 and herpes on the junk tends to be HSV2. I think something like half the general population have HSV1 but it doesn't express in most people. Anyway it's stupid such an obviously dangerous and unhygenic and not to mention semi-pedo practice is still allowed because religion. There have been many cases of this happening this one isn't so bad, a few years ago a rabbi infected a several babies and at least one of them died because getting herpes at only a couple of days old without a proper immune system just fucks them up... Not like getting it at 16 from kissing some chick at a party.
