SEO and linking between subdomains

Is there any benefit or penalty in SEO linking between subdomains.

For example, will a network of blogs on thumblogger get penalized for linking to each other?

If you have a large number i wouldnt recip from all blogs to all others. Try and do it so that not every link is a recipical. Or create some kind of link wheel. Im sure the benfiit will be greater than interlinking all of them. However much so, not really sure.

I read somewhere about the same thing.. the guy used heavy number of subdomains.. first 2 months were best.. all pages were getting indexed and good traffic and everything however after 2 months it got sandboxed.. so act smartly if you wanna go for it.
