          There is about 1.2 TB on the server that needs a backup.

                              Do you actually need a server? It sounds like you just need an offsite backup, why not contact backup companies to get an ftp account instead of paying for hardware you really don't need?

                                      Yeah well i'm in doubt what to do. I'm just thinking of what the worst case scenario could be and that is that this server goes kaput including the local back up and my sites will be offline. If this is the case i want to be able to simply switch the dns and make sure the sites go live again on another server.

                                          I'm using monthly backups at bettercgi.com. Affordable and Ray will even switch the backup server live if the main server blows up.

We make a complete image of the server so we can actually boot it and run it from our DC if needed, keeping four copies so we have one from this morning, one from yesterday, one from last week, and one from last month.
