Gulf Oil Spill: Industry Colleagues, let?s make an impact!

As many of you know, the Gulf Coast oil spill continues to be more disastrous each and every day. And as most of you should know, the majority of this industry is composed of GOOD people. We at Pink Visual are trying to lead a grass roots movement within our industry to help the Gulf Coast wildlife and people. So here?s what we need to do:

KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE

Donate: to organizations like EDF.org | GNOF.org | MatterOfTrust.org

Buy Dawn detergent: Dishwashing detergent is used to clean oil of birds and other animals. If you purchase a bottle of Dawn, $1 will go toward the Marine Mammal Center and the International Bird Rescue Center. Be sure to register here to activate your donation: http://www.dawn-dish.com/en_US/savingwildlife/home.do

Volunteer: organizations like AudubonAction.org coordinate volunteer efforts. Give your employees time off to volunteer.

Be Greener: Look to utilize alternative fuel vehicles, drive less or use public transportation. Be green wherever you can, recycle, turn off lights, etc.

Speak Up: Contact your congressman or senator about changes you?d like to see to ensure disasters like this don?t occur again and that we help the people impacted. https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

Check out http://pinkvisual.com/oil_spill/for more ways to help.

We at PinkVisual/TopBucks have made a donation and are matching our employees? donations. We are also trying to organize webinars to expose Gulf Coast workers to potential new careers and allowing our staff time off for volunteering.

Little efforts by everyone can go a long way. There are plenty of adult industry individuals who live in the impacted areas and unlike other disasters there seems to be few initiatives helping the people or the wildlife now. So let?s show them our support.

Let?s also send a message to those who demonize our industry. Let them see that we are good people who provide harmless entertainment made by adults for adults. Let them see that the real harm is by industries who buy their control of the U.S. government to have reduced regulation.

POST HERE IF YOU SUPPORT THIS CAUSE AND WILL PARTICIPATE!

You say $1 goes to detergent. Did you know that detergent is a product made from oil? A lot of products in your daily life are made from oil.

Here's a list of products made from oil:

Gas, Diesel fuel, Ammonia, Anesthetics, Antihistamines, Artificial limbs, Artificial Turf, Antiseptics, Aspirin, Auto Parts, Awnings, Balloons, Ballpoint pens, Bandages, Beach Umbrellas, Boats, Cameras, Candles, Car Battery Cases, Carpets, Caulking, Combs, Cortisones, Cosmetics, Crayons, Credit Cards, Curtains, Deodorants, Detergents, Dice, Disposable Diapers, Dolls, Dyes, Eye Glasses, Electrical Wiring Insulation, Faucet Washers, Fishing Rods, Fishing Line, Fishing Lures, Food Preservatives, Food Packaging, Garden Hose, Glue, Hair Coloring, Hair Curlers, Hand Lotion, Hearing Aids, Heart Valves, Ink, Insect Repellant, Insecticides, Linoleum, Lip Stick, Milk Jugs, Nail Polish, Oil Filters, Panty Hose, Perfume, Petroleum Jelly, Rubber Cement, Rubbing Alcohol, Shampoo, Shaving Cream, Shoes, Toothpaste, Trash Bags, Upholstery, Vitamin Capsules, Water Pipes, Yarn

That's great that you guys are trying to help. I was curious, the part you mentioned above, what type of new careers are you trying to teach people ?

Well we doubt we'll be able to teach an entire new career. Our staff's idea was to do webinars to expose people to new possible careers they might be interested in. So general basic information and starter training in areas like programming, graphics design, video editing, photography, etc. Help others identify what skills need to be obtained and what career opportunities there are.

That's a good list and I don't think this cause is about never using petroleum in any product nor not using it in moderation. I think if anything was spilling into the ocean at a rate of 800,000 gallons per day we wouldn't be happy. The cause is about doing something about the current and longterm damage. Seems because this is not a natural disaster or because therre are politics around oil, the philanthropy is lacking.

How about, stop consuming fucking everything?

Learn how to garden and grow a lot your own food. Walk or ride a bike if it's not far. Carpool. Take the subway if you can. Stop buying fucking everything you don't need.

Problem solved.

Just because some products (such as detergents) are in the list, it does not mean that all detergents contain petroleum oil. The word "detergent" is a generic word and gives us no clue about its ingredients. Soaps have been around for hundreds of years.

For example (fishing lures) ... fishing lures and fishing line (rope) have existed for hundreds of years. I doubt people were making them with petroleum centuries ago

Also, just because a product is transported by an oil burning vehicle or produced in a factory which consumes electricty produced at an oil buning plant, does not mean that the product is "made from oil".

And finally, dont forget that not all oils are poisonuous to animals. Humans eat oils everyday ... not petroleum oil of course. I dont hear anyone complaing about sunflower or olive oil spills.

A little new info from the Coast Guard.

A lot of questionable claims have been floated by various people in charge of trying to mitigate this disaster, but this assertion I have little doubt about, sadly:

"This is a long campaign and we?re going to be dealing with this for the foreseeable future," he (Coast Guard Admiral Thad W. Allen) said.
