People outside of America get whole sections in newspapers and on TV/Radio news with what is happening in other parts of the world.

Not realy,as US politics is not just US politics,it is also world politic despise how outside people cannot directly affect it.As US is still world economic/cultural power number one,if a shit happen there,you can bet everyvone else will be affected.And this is why people outside usa comment things what happen in usa.

That last part is a common misnomer many (not all) Americans have about us. The truth of it is we not only have our own Canadian political/TV/pop culture but we are also exposed to just as much US news/TV/Pop Culture as you Americans are. Many of you may not know it but we get as much of your tv as you do, and in some cases I'd say even more. Not only that but I have an uncountable number of family members, friends, aquaintances, business contacts etc who are Americans. From all over the US. They often tell me things. About how life is where they are. I listen.

My current cable provider buys FOX from Rochester NY, four network channels out of Chicago, four from out west near the coast, and all major netorks (CBS, NBC, ABC) from Minneapolis and N Dakota. Plus CNN, MSNBC, four or more sports channels with a host of specialty channels for golf, football, hockey, baseball, hoops, etc. HBO & Showtime (yes, we get that Maher guy). It's not like Canadians are sitting up here wondering what you're all talking about down there. "Huh? Who's this O'Rielly guy the dumb 'mericuns keep talkin' aboot?"
