Russia?s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed an order banning anonymous access to the Internet in restaurants, metro, parks and other places offering Wi-Fi connections, the government reports on its website.

The document reads communication operators will be responsible for identifying users. Access to the Internet will be possible upon registration, where a user will have to give the full name ?confirmed by an ID.?

Besides, hardware is to be identified, too.

Interesting...I am shocked that they beat the USA to implementing this first with the patriot act and using the bogus "war on terror" to do further monitoring BUT I guess that the NSA was already taking care of this behind the scenes already!

At least Russia is being above board about it instead of spying like the fucking lying US government lying and spying on the citizens!

Distribution of pornography is forbidden in Russia while even the state TV operators include it into their paid packets. You must have a license to be a taxi driver, but go to the street, raise your hand and you'll see how many drivers here don't give a flyin' fuck about that law.

P.S. How many noise was about the so-called "anti-gay" law in Russia? Has it been enforced since then at least once? The answer is NO.

They formally obey the court order and show you a page where is written what site is blocked, but... below that message they do explain how to avoid such a restriction and get access to the blocked site (e.g. use "turbo mode" in Opera browser, use alternative DNS, proxy etc). Once again: this is Russia. We outlived the Soviet Union and course we will outlive Рutin

Anytime you go to a cyber cafe you have to show passport to get credentials for Wifi in Italy. Internet cafes have stations with passport scanners.

Just because you don't think so doesn't make it less of a law. BTW, this law came in response to comply with US laws against terrorism. France has a similar law.
