Again I don't see any major conspiracy in someone his age having that arsenal, the OP was the one asking that.

At this point I don't either. I'm surprised at the range of Holmes' arsenal and defense gear, but if he had the money from a logical source like student loans (and as someone else mentioned, credit cards) then it's not such a mystery.

He clearly planned all of this out, so that is why I am surprised he warned them. If he was flying by the seat of his pants, I'd agree with you. But to put in the effort to learn how to booby trap and then do it, this guy thought this out.
