Short, brandable, .COM domains. Make one YOUR company's flagship! (acronyms)
You'd be surprised the amount of credibility a short, concise domain can bring.
Build a brand around it. I've had people buy domains off of me and turn them into TSHIRT companies, businesses, forums, blogs, trademarks. The advantage of having a short, unique name is that people can remember it. Nobody is going to remember: "TeamAtlantaMarketingAndSonsInc.com". People underestimate the value of visual recognition. Economic downturn? What's the problem? The internet is going to be here in 5 years, people. Quit being so short-sighted. It's a buyers market. Take advantage of that.
