$20,000 reward for the scumbag that killed my cousin

If you live in the Southern California area then you are probably familiar with the story.
My 15 year-old second-cousin, Nicholas Markowitz (his mother is my first-cousin, the blonde you might have seen on NBC this afternoon), was murdered last year. His brother owed some bad kids money for drugs and disappeared so the drug dealers kidnapped Nick then shot him 9 times several days later.
Finally, the feds just came up with the reward money they promised last year. The reward is officially $20,000.00 but the family is trying to contribute more and the local news reported the total at $30,000.00 today.
All but one of the suspects have been incarcerated. Jesse James Hollywood has been on the run this entire time and reports have put him in Las Vegas, Colorado, Mexico and Canada.

Of course, Hollywood's family has been something less than helpful.

My family has been pretty active in helping keep the word out, posting flyers along the route between L.A. and Vegas and talking to the press, including a segment on America's Most Wanted, to no avail.
Anyway, I thought it couldn't hurt to have an extra pair of eyes on the look out. Thanks for indulging me.

Unfortunately, I'm very serious.
This has really torn the family up. And the fact that the killer is still loose is troubling. He is very dangerous.
The whole story, seldom published, plays out like a tragedy. There were a lot of kids that had contact with this group from the time of the kidnapping to the day of the killing, even some teenage girls that knew about their plans but didn't really believe they would do it.
And there would be better pictures of Hollywood if his family cooperated but as you can see from Jamdin's link that is not likely. These kids come from affluent families and they really do tend to protect them, even in those instances where providing such protection may be breaking the law.

I live in LA, I remember when it happened. I also remember his half-brother (also you're cousin?) speaking on the news and being just absolutely tore up that he was supposedly the one that they were after. I cannot imagine the guilt he will feel for the rest of his life.

I sincerely hope they catch this shit. I'm, also, glad that his picture is being put out in other parts of the country. I thought it was just going to stay a local thing. Wish they had done it sooner.

aprilkorova, Nick's half-brother is the offspring of his father's previous marriage. He's a troubled young man and no blood of mine. Not to sound cruel or air dirty laundry, but the family has reason to believe that he knew who had kidnapped Nick before the killing and kept out of sight to protect his own hide. We realize that he was scared but it isn't right to let your family be hurt to protect yourself.

jimmyf, thanks! I have been putting it up on a few of my domains as well. America's Most Wanted aired the story late last year, I believe, but the show's results aren't as immediate as we had hoped. Still, reruns can be helpful.

Another story I've been following is the murder of Antelope Valley College student Michelle O?Keefe. She attended my community college around the time she was killed. Her story was also on America's Most Wanted but the killer is still unknown. I remember helping my staff at the college newspaper put together her bio, go through yearbooks and dig up anything that could help, even running the reward notice on the back of each issue, almost a full tab sheet, following the murder. Her family sought the help of psychics, appeared on talk shows and got the reward up to $25,000.00 (don't know what the total is right now) but there are still no leads.
