Rant When will the rational humans stop tolerating religion?

I mean enough is enough already. The Crusades, the Inquisition, all this shit:

    Albigensian Crusade
Massacres of the Pagans, known as Reyse by Christians
    The Muslim conquests
massacres of Hindus and Buddhists in India
    Jewish Massacres (Crusaders, Nazi's)
    Massacre of Verden
    Bartholomew's Day Massacre
    Thirty Years' War
    The Ulster Massacres
    Constanintople Massacre
Colossal Massacres by both the Turks and the Greeks (18th-19th Century)
on and on, too many to mention...then Al Qaeda'
    now Isis

I ask you YOU thinking rational people who are either Atheist (sane) OR if you were raised religious but KNOW DEEP DOWN it's all just fiction WHEN is it going to be time to say OK FUCK RELIGION, but more than that FUCK YOU if you are Religious.

Time to END tax breaks for Cults - it's just as much of a crime that the Catholic Church pays no tax as it is Scientology. They are just two sides of the same bullshit.

That Pope visit to America made me sick..The press revered him like a god with 24/7 cable news coverage.

Why do we sane people, who aren't shrouded in the fog of antique mythology that runs diametrically opposed to all scientific fact let this shit go unchallenged? The Pope who leads a criminal organization with a history of more blood, torture, child fucking, enslavement and destruction than any on the Planet. The Pope comes here and the US Gov spends millions on security and officials visits - yet where are the voices of sanity saying "We don't think there is an validity to the belief system, this is a Cult based on oppression, subjugation and child rape, therefore we don't think our tax dollars should be spent on THOUSANDS of man hours for the "Head of State" treatment of a Cult Leader.

Isis could lop off noggins for a hundred years and not match the body count of the Catholic Cult.

High time the rational take a stand against ALL RELIGION and end the hysteria that has stricken the Human Race like a cancer for so long.

Aren't there any organizations out there pushing to end Governmental assistance and tolerance of these brainwash factories?

Over 85% of the 7.4 billion people on planet earth are religious.

Try to drum up some support for your atheist / non-religious movement!? It might work 50 years from now if you can pick up a following. Try facebook but bare in mind that even if you get the support of all 1 billion of facebook users, you still face (book?) an uphill struggle

      Washingto Post Maps of Religiosity

Well, JIB, you might have a fighting chance.

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ous-countries/

      China, 90% Atheist, not religious.
Sweden - religion? whats the that?
      Extensive list follows.

      Interesting data.
      Google "Countries by religiosity"

I agree people should have freedom of speech and religion. But if you want to go to war over some religious bullshit, be my guest, I'll keep your wife/sister/mom warm but leave me and my family the fuck out of it.

That was data gleaned from respondents and not accurate but actually in China, Buddhism is the largest religious group and Atheism is less than 50% of the total population of China. It's a sizeable amount but largely historically due to a difficult relationship with faith and formerly government control of such.

Your anticatholic whine about the church is staggeringly hypocritical besides being absolutely wrong.

First, athiests are hardly the most rational people. Next, the excuse for your lack of tolerance of the church is based on examples of the church's lack of tolerance.

Plenty of other reasons why your little rant is silly, such as thinking you can outlaw belief structures and create a rational society run by athiests. Better outlaw art too, its certainly not rational.

Never did I say "outlaw" - I mentioned not giving "Religions" (Crazed Cults) tax exempt status. Obviously there is a middle ground where the rational can begin to put pressure on the irrational to come out of the dark ages and into this century without outright outlawing religion.

And as for me being "wrong" about anything..I can understand that there are those who hate my opinion, but I really don't see any black and white right or wrong in anything I said.

Even staunch Catholic mind-scrubs will tell you that the history of the church is a non-stop bloodbath of massacres, stake burnings, and beheadings. The Popes white robes are awash in the blood of millions of innocents. (Not to mention the countless indigenous tribal people that have been "Converted" (Genocided) nearly or completely by Catholic Missionaries in South America and Africa).

Please tell me exactly where I was wrong about anything.

When you suggest stopping tolerating religion because it is intolerant, is where I think you mostly went wrong. Well, actually I fully disagree with a rational society. Love is highly irrational, in a world where rational athiests rule, certainly love would be eradicated after religion/personal belief structures. Some people are born religious. Like sexuality. Lbgt.

And as the above poster noted, and I've claimed here many times, religion/faith has done a tremendous amount of good, most of it unmeasurable because it happens at the individual level.

Did you just back up the "Church" AND mention LGBT???
Not long ago your people BURNED ALL LGBT AT THE STAKE. Roasted them alive! (thats where the term Fag comes from it means bundle of wood sticks)

A lot of good done is done on a personal level by religious fanatics HA - oh like helping a lil ol lady across the street? Like giving to charity? Like helping out a homeless brother? I do all that and not because I FEAR an imaginary ghost in the sky. So your point is that all the little good niceties done by geezus-folk kinda makes up for all the vile bloodlust of the Church-Cult...homosexuals and witched burned at the stake by the hundreds of thousands (Witches?) Protestants massacred by the millions, subjugation and annihilation of indigenous tribes around the globe. Millions of children raped (no doubt thousands daily to this day)

You Gawd-Zombies are all the same. Deny the centuries of mass-murder, child rape, slave driving, and marginalization of women - GLORIFY HIM - KILL FOR HIM - CONVERT THE HEATHENS! Oh and don't forget FORCE 11 year old girls who are raped to have the baby!

moral reasoning and strategic reasoning are not related decision making processes and are processed completely differently in the brain. so "rational..." has nothing to do with religion. the bible is a collection of over 2000 rules/laws, most of which address moral issues.
                                        .

shameful numbers...for innocent WOMEN (thousands were little girls too, torched while screaming by the Catholic Church Murder Cult)

you god guys are great just great

And the Pope..while he was here grants an audience to the Ky Lady refusing marriage licenses to the LGBT community. This "Reformer" Pope comes to the US and visits the BIGGEST BIGGOT in the states! What a guy

I'll tell you the best thing this Pope could ever do to go down in history as the greatest Pope of all time: On live TV, in atonement for the millions of murder and tortures perpetrated by the church, Self Immolate.

Not that would be a Pope I can dig.

I never knew this too until I had a good Israeli buddy explain to me that out of all his friends back home none of them were religious.

Being that its a universal thing, has existed in all cultures, in all societies and throughout the history of man, and more often than not, in the very same fundamental forms with the very same fundamental rituals and rules, no matter how far any two might be separated from each other,... maybe there is a little more to it than your simplistic notions.

With respect to man, many of our behaviors are unisersal, our tendency to like music/dance is universal (both bond groups). aesthetic beauty is universal (whether its a woman or waterfall or building). tribal behaviors are universal, religious beliefs are universal and so on. To understand this, you'd have to understand both the role of religion in evolution and the neural mechanisms which underpin our propensity towards religion and religious beliefs in the brain and why they come so naturally to us. I'd type out a couple pages explaining it, but it'd be like teaching calculus to 1st graders.

The tragic thing about someone who is as simple as you is that you'll go through your life not understanding others.... and simply dismissing them as "crazy", "brainwashed", "stupid" etc etc, no different than Liberal vs. Conservative or New England Patriots vs Colts etc Sound familiar? Beliefs are beliefs. Once you start to believe in ANYTHING, you then begin to irrationally defend it... you'd recognize this if you weren't too simple minded to care and lazy to educate yourself,... too lazy to attempt to understand. At the core of it all, you understand very little about human behavior and psychology, why and how we see, perceive, interpret and think differently and moreover, why its an evolutionary benefit to enhance survival or even understand the simple and obvious fact that monotheistic religions only appear as agriculture did and with man shifting to sedentary lifestyles vs nomadic. Of course you're mystified by a book of 2000+ rules on how to treat each other, conduct war, handle food, deal with disease, corpses, relationships, manage personal hygiene and so on. Why wouldn't you be? You're just not real bright.

Basically the majority of you are simply immature, petulant children upset at a book of of just over 2000 rules because you're antisocial jerk offs in a business that attracts little more than anti social jerk offs.

I don't believe in God. I do believe in education and understanding.

Just because you don't understand something... doesn't mean they are the problem.

It's amusing to watch people attack beliefs which have existed since the dawn of man by pointing out an insignificant number of times which you belief they were the root cause of evil... which is rarely the case and the simple fact that it was cited as the primary reason for the crusades for example, doesn't make it any more true than WMD's being the primary reason to invade Iraq.

It takes a great deal of arrogance and ignorance to dismiss the vast majority of the world brainwashed and stupid.

That said, i think the entire middle east should be turned to glass.

mythology in any culture is less prevalent when food, safety and survival are less of an issue. Look at India as an example, a "guru" on every corner, doing easily explainable "tricks" and being treated as if they are touched by god himself. though a lie, hope also keeps people going. beliefs give people purpose. beliefs give people a sense of meaning to their lives.

If you want to cure the middle east, you have to cure their economies, their habits, their cultures etc. If you've done so poor in life as a society that religion has such strong roots, it can often be what then holds back progress. A culture where men derive their purpose from their service to a religion or god is not going to thrive in the same way that one where men derive their purpose from financial success, innovation and achievement.

Imagine all the good you fucking nitwits could be doing right now by going to gang infested areas and just using "reason" and "logic" to convince them they can be anything they want to be and that their gang and all members of their group is "dumb".

Why not just spend your time walking around the 5th Ward of Houston explaining to cartel members and gang bangers and pimps and addicts and hookers that you've got human behavior all figured out and all they need to do is to start being "logical" and "rational".

You guys could change the world with your incredible insights. I mean, really... you've made it clear that the real problem is that they are just dumb and brainwashed. SO it should be a piece of cake to end ghettos and poverty while you tackle religion.

With a path for the intelligent few to go up the hierarchy if they'll play ball. Or death if they don't. Perfect.

They will castrate and mutilate themselves to please us. They'll provide us with endless wealth, labor, innovation, and devotion. They will acquiesce to the complete removal of their genes from the human gene pool in exchange for a little rank and a tiny, tiny part of what we own.

I think you are greatly oversimplifying a much bigger issue.

The husband of raped and murdered 28 year old Amanda Blackburn:

"My hope is for 3 things in the weeks and months to come:

                                                                              (1) That the court system would have wisdom on how to prosecute this man, so that no one else endures the pain Amanda and our family have had to endure because of his actions.

                                                                              (2) That through all of this and although there will be great consequences for his actions, he would become truly sorry for what he has done and would even begin to experience the life-transforming power of the Grace and Mercy of Jesus Christ.

                                                                              (3) That Jesus would give me and our family a heart of forgiveness.

Though everything inside of me wants to hate, be angry, and slip into despair I choose the route of forgiveness, grace and hope. If there is one thing I?ve learned from Amanda in the 10 years we were together, it?s this: Choosing to let my emotions drive my decisions is recipe for a hopeless and fruitless life. Today I am deciding to love, not hate. Today I am deciding to extend forgiveness, not bitterness. Today I am deciding to hope, not despair. By Jesus? power at work within us, the best is STILL yet to come. Even when I don?t see it, I believe it to be true."

Religion can be a kind of comfort. It genuinely serves a purpose for those who can believe. The correlation between IQ and religiosity is well established, and not my data. Bach, an acknowledged genius, was deeply religious. Many are.

But the comforting stories are one aspect, and the control methods are another. Often they are at odds with each other. Regardless, one can have a scientific or faith based approach to life, and if your approach is scientific, you must acknowledge that religion has no basis in reality other than the actions it produces in the people who follow it.
