By "mainstream" you mean not from adult networks? I think it is less likely to convert. You know, if someone is looking for a car and finds themseleves in an adult site, they aren't likely to stay. I agree. Sending non-adult traffic to an adult site is not a good idea, for exactly the reason you describe. Also, I'm surprised that any network would allow mainstream site's traffic to go an adult site. The mainstream publishers would likely freak out that their traffic was going to porn.

I purchase a lot of traffic and my best ROIs come from mainstream traffic versus adult. There are 3 niches that will almost "always" work everywhere and those are making money, sex & weight loss.

The adult scene has seen everything under the sun from GRANNY dating to "enter anything here", which is often making it harder to come up with new angles while mainstream has a different state of mind.

Upload a sexy chick to any random mainstream traffic source and you will see higher CTRs compared to highly targeted ads.
