Heading to California in a month, need tourist advice.

I've been through Cali before but the whole point of me posting this is I want people that work in adult to give me their opinions on the best places to be to the full superficial feel of Cali. What do I mean?

Places to see beautiful people, money, good hangout spots... Recommended areas. I will be staying with a producer friend of mine and with a former drug dealer friend of mine, fun times. LOL

Tips, advice, angry comments? Let me here them...

ummm... fairly large state... might want to narrow it down a bit... where in Cali? There is plenty to do/see/experience etc. that is not necessarily superficial or just plain "touristy".

If you are in the LA area then maybe your drug dealer friend can take you to Venice to see how VC13 gets the job done clocking dollars on Brooks Ave* before enjoying a nice chi chi meal with the wealthy bohemians shmoozing it up at a cafe on Abbott Kinney. Where else can you rub elbows with the true OG or hobnob with famous actors all in a few blocks of a place that has kept the wild in wild wild west?

Be sure to stay frosty though... legend has it that to get in the gang you have to kill a stranger so you don't want to be there on kill a stranger day...

I was joking around about my drug dealer friend, he got in trouble for possession of a controlled substance in chicago, big trouble.

California is really 4 states in 1...

Very North might as well be Canada.
Mid-North is very iSmug
Middle wine, country, lazy beaches
Southern is fast paced with no central theme other than speed.

Stanford is about 45 minutes from SF. My dad was faculty and my bro went to school there. Not much going on there though unless you like taking tours on VC row or seeing what a particle accelerator pipeline looks like. The campus is beautiful though and maybe there is a good show going on at Frost Amphitheatre...

In San Diego, there is of course the world famous Homegrown Video building... but hit La Jolla if you want upscale drinks/food overlooking the water or Mission Beach if you want a younger rowdier crowd.

I've lived in the Bay Area outside of San Fran for many years, and I love it here. I hate SoCal with their traffic and smog and crap. But after many many years of living here... Just last year I discovered a little section of town that no one has ever heard of, all residential, right on the beach. Just a great place to hang out really.
