i have a forum that made me no money that all of a sudden started getting hit with a ddos attack and my host asked me to take the site down...the ddos attack was peaking at 100mbps but would be lower than that when it was sustained...do you think you guys would be able to mitigate it? im not even sure why its being attacked at all and i have a log of the attack happening if you have an email i could send the logs to that would be great

how much connections/sec they open? what kind of attack?
proably you can handle this scriptkiddy ddos attack with server hardening only... give them a try, google for: inetbase ddos script

If your forum is for small set of countries only, move to a DNS Service with Geo split service.
Install GeoIP on your server and do the same there, you can put this rules inside .htaccess.

Such small attack is not hard to fight server based as long the connections/sec are not too high.

A real hard fighting begins above 20 gbps :-)

Your broke ass wants to buy a $25.00 budget server to mitigate a DDOS attack that is coming in at around 40-50mbps!?!? Furthermore, that you "claim" is for some forum, that makes no money mind you, and you are doing on 'principle'.

While I was nice enough, despite my personal feelings about you, to give you a solid recommendation. You can't afford that (no surprise).

Just for future reference Debian is unable to be installed on to these. It seems CentOs is their only available OS.
