Domain age is considered to be based on continuous registration. So if a domain is dropped and re-registered, it has lost any previous "age" it has had.

When a domain is deleted it lose its age. It keeps history, but it doesn't means it keeps the age.

When a domain is transfered it keeps the age.

So, deleted and transfered is not the same.
