GFY cleanup part 2: Give back a little GFY to the serious biz people!
 

Followup on this thread: https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=999450 but with the best ideas put together.

1. Make a seperate section on GFY for serious bussiness people.
2. Make that seperate section a PAID section. $100 a year to get access to it.
3. Have serious identifaction: a) Whois check b) Automatic telephonenumber verification c) Automatic file verification (where said person uploads a personal html file that can be checked and verified.
4. Serious biz posts only, strict rules, no personal attacks, no trashing etc etc. Not following the rules is a sudden ban.

Following quote from jewcat says it all:

Some problems with that:
- same people trolling in that section as in the free section
- no new blood
- no biz with outsiders

But a new section is in order if things should change here.
GFY's main forum is the troll forum. The business part should be better separated from that.
Turn "fucking around and discussions" into "offtopic". Then go through all older threads and move the business threads into a new forum.
It is a lot of work, but it can be done.

fuck moving old threads, that is way too much work, nobody wants to do it, nobody will do it. as long as that is part of the plan, no one is ever going to tackle it. just start with a fresh new subforum and make sure it is run properly from the start. :2 cents:

I dont think we should move all existing biz threads there, start new and fresh so we know who to trust too. There will always be new blood, and you could still contact people that arent in there but posting on the troll section looking for your services.

Outsiders? Have you seen what gfy turned into? The outsiders are: surfers, fakenicks, people who got banned before with multiple nicks, trashers and general dumbasses. Hardly any outsider i want to do biz with, no offense.

Yep, agreed. It wouldnt even be that hard to find 2-3 mods to verify things and keep an eye on whats happening there. Maybe we could even get people to work together again. Share real tips without every thread ending into a trashfest between fakenicks and anonymous losers.

Its not that uncommon either, mainstream forums do this all the time. And it works.

You don't need to clean up the forum or change anything.

Just create the premium subforum and take good care of it. Leave everything else exactly how it is. That way you've given all the hardcore "industry only" whiners a place to go be amongst themselves without the FA&PD shitshow getting in their way. If they venture over to FA&PD and don't like what they see, fuck 'em. It would be nice to have one area where if you don't want to see the bullshit and want to hold a conversation with some halfway serious members, you can.

Frisky doesn't really want the subforum - this is just his way of telling people he thinks he is better than us... even if he got his wish - he would still be here in the fun house talking shit the whole time...

Maybe the biggest as in "amounts of post". But you can count the REAL biz threads here on the fingers of one hand. There are forums that might be 90% smaller, but at least i know im doing biz with people IN the biz and without every bizthread resulting into a trashfest by people that have nothing lost here.

Fun aside, those where 4-5 points some of us collected to see HOW we could have a seperate section. Charging a fee was just one of them, and not even my point made. If eric doesnt want to charge for it then so be it and we still have other valid points to slightly improve gfy for us biz folks.

You really should remove your blinders for five minutes. You think the lack of business threads means no business is being done? Have you never attended a trade show?

Let me help you out. People are introduced on the show floor then seal the deal at the parties later. Now, substitute trade show for GFY. You sure spend a lot of time here for someone that considers it a waste of time.

I used to post on every adult board. I determined that was a waste of time. Did I complain about it and tell the board owners what they were doing wrong? No. I stopped posting at the boards that were a waste of my time.

Not sure what you are trying to say. I am not the one here whining about GFY. I don't need to start a forum just because I want to post photos. I create blogs, which people can join if they want, or they can just lurk.

I'd be perfectly happy to see more business getting done here. I'm something of a workaholic, so anywhere really.

I mean biggest in the sense that I'm most likely to get an answer to a tech question here, most likely to get a number of opinions on any company I'm considering doing business with here, most likely to get new affiliates if I post a SpookyCash content thread here.

I honestly feel that exclusionary tactics at the trade shows really messed up the affiliate business model. When all the guys who were doing promo for beer money got treated with contempt . . . they did go somewhere else. And now there are so many fewer affiliates. And losing that support structure knocked out some of the same ballers who were trying to make themselves feel big by making smaller affiliates feel small or telling them they had to suck up to get invited to some sausagefest party. Are we really better off for having a smaller pool of potential people to work with?

I have accounts on pretty much all of the industry forums, but GFY is always the one I check the most often. I think I'm fairly typical for a professional webmaster in this regard.

I can say this, when I get really active posting on GFY I do see an increase in new affiliates signing up. I do not use a tracking code in my links to Payserve so I do not know exactly how many are directly related to posting here but I suspect a lot of them see the posts here and click through to check out the program

I have moved old threads on my own forum. It's only 1/10th of the size of gfy, and it is a lot of work. But it is not impossible.
And you just won't get rid of the trolls if they are able to bump troll threads in the biz forum and vice versa.

I am starting to break into this field little by little and have genuinely utilized this site for advice and information in a short time. However it seems from what people are writing, either re-doing the forums could be counterproductive or making some forums pay only (and it seems the thought of the cost is going up). I also notice that people are associating serious people with an economical success rate that maybe 5-10% of the community here has.

I may not be familiar with this field, but I am very familiar with running a business and running a few sites. I am sure there are a lot of "Serious" individuals that may not have the $$ chops just yet. Personally, I am not sure how "Serious" someone could be if they are making 10k/month USD and they are on this(any) board. They know what they need to do more so then anyone else.

Someone such as myself, take this board as a wealth of information and is attempting to utilize most everything I come across. I am sure there are a lot of people like me here.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of bullshit here and abuse, or whatever you want to call it. While I think Eric has made it clear that he does not want to charge for this forum. That doesn't mean there can't be a VIP section? But the VIP section can be a combination of things. Cost, posts, time on site, reputable sites, real things to battle against bots, etc

Additionally, this gives the opportunity of someone like me to work for it also. I have learned quite a bit in my short time here and I would hate to lose it simply because I am new, don't have the website chops yet, etc.

In closing, whatever is to be done, needs to enhance growth too, not limit it.

GFY pays its bills from advertising. Truth is drama and troll threads get the most pageviews. It is not in their best interests to triple verify your haters so you don't get butt hurt, which is what this is really about.
