Anticipating a nationwide grassroots surge of protests against naked body scanners and aggressive pat-downs, the TSA simply turned off its naked body scanners on Wednesday and let air travelers walk right through security checkpoints without being X-rayed or molested.

All across the country, air travelers are reporting that the TSA simply deactivated the naked body scanners and let people go right through without a scan. "Backscatter scanners are off. No scan. No patdown." reported a traveler from the Seattle airport. "Backscatter machines aren't being used at LAX," reported another traveler. "They're all roped off."

Much the same story is being reported all across the country.

The TSA is desperate to avoid protests

Shutting down the "National Opt-Out Day" by turning off the machines is the only logical move for the TSA, of course: The agency needed a way to defuse the growing grassroots resistance to its criminal violations of Americans' Fourth Amendment rights. So instead of facing what was sure to be widespread protest, the agency simply decided to turn off the machines for a day.

This action tells us all sorts of fascinating things about the TSA and its fabricated security excuses. Perhaps most importantly, it proves that the naked body scanners are not needed for air travel security in the first place. When it wants to, the TSA can just turn the machines off and resort to baggage X-rays and metal detectors. That's worked for years, and it apparently worked today, too.

If the TSA did indeed deactivate the body scanners, and gate rape sessions, it will be a HUGE admission on their part that these naked body scanners have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with security. Either the naked body scanners are vital for air security, or they are not. This could potentially blow this whole scam wide open.

The scanners are only designed to detect objects with straight hard edges, not soft edges. They cannot detect a plethora of items. So what's the point?

I cross the Atlantic at least 6 times a year, bouncing through any number of European and E. European airports. My goal, 99% of the time, is just to get through customs and security so I can get to my next damn flight as fast as I can. Compared to some of the shit I have had to deal with a full body scan and a pat down doesnt even rank in my list of air travel pains in the ass.

With a few exceptions, I agree. Of those few exceptions, I wonder how many have had to undergo the full body scan or pat down. I only know of two people that have and it was only one direction.

I went through it the last time I left the States, mid October. I left via Detroit Metro. There were three lines for the xray machines. Next to the standard walk through metal detector was the scanner of death and the gate rapist, beckoning me. About every 3rd person was being sent through the evil porn scanner and then subsequently raped by the TSA nazi. I was shocked when the TSA nazi told me to step into the scanner line. Terrified and shaking I stepped into the NWO cancer machine and it whirled around me, undoubtedly shrinking my genitals and scambling my DNA... and then came the rape. That evil nazi fuck ran his hands all over me. Now I can truly empathize with people who have suffered a violent rape. Completely shattered I made my way to the nearest airport bar to drown my pain in beer.

i've had a full pat down flying across Europe back in 2002. Not even in the US. And I didn't run back to GfY to bitch about how those damn Europeans violated my privacy. They got me good, all the way up the crotch. I was a little surprised but was fine with it, they were doing it to everyone too not just selective people. It made me feel safer especially since it was only 1 year after 911. I was thinking how nice it would be if we (United States) would take the same safety precautions as they were doing.

When they are searching your groin they are not looking for an underwear bomb (that was basically as powerful as a freakin' firecracker for God's sake)...they are hunting for your pot or your coke. Those body scanners are now showing them EVERYTHING from what I've seen. So now they are going to see all...even that baggie you put in your mouth.

Totally ridiculous. The ONLY U.S. plane that I remember EVER being blown up was the one over Lockerbie Scotland back in the 1980's that Libya recently admitted to doing. And guess what? Nobody was body scanned, searched, and patted down back then after that happened. Nope. They weren't even allowed to go through your luggage. I used to LOCK my luggage to make sure that no employees stole my stuff.

Back then they had to specifically have you right there on the spot to go through your belongings while you watched.

And that was when it actually happened. Not thinking it MIGHT happen. A plane full of people was really blown up.

But back then govt. wasn't allowed to do this kind of shit.

The entire thing that happened on 9-11 was solved when they put the locked steel doors on the cockpits of airlines. No way a handful of guys with box cutters are going to be able to ever do that again.

So why in hell are we being searched and treated like criminals now? All somebody has to do is swallow a fucking bomb right before they walk through security, get on the plane and blow themselves up. You can't stop crazy people. The govt. knows that. If a person is going to kill themselves to kill you...they WILL find a way. So what is the govt. looking for exactly when they do this?

When we went to the Amsterdam show in 2007 I was shocked because when we landed it was 6 a.m. and I was exhausted...thought I'd be in line at customs for hours.

Nope. No customs at all! One guy just waved us in.

Then when I flew back home, they did the same little x-ray of the carry ons but the whole process was much faster and much more efficient.

Then when I got back to the U.S. it was a nightmare.

Embarrassing even...I was in the U.S. citizens line and still felt harassed as they demanded to know what I was doing out of the country...I told them it was none of their goddamn business. lol! The guy didn't know what to do when I said that, and he finally just mumbled "welcome home" and stamped me in.

But over in the "non-citizen" line it was like watching Nazi's at work. They were fingerprinting and eye scanning people and searching them. I couldn't help but think how bad that looked, especially after my experience at Amsterdam airport.

It was either Rome, Venice or in Germany where I had a lay over. I'm thinking it was Germany if I remember right. It was 2002, one year after 911 so maybe they were more strict then and laxed off now, i don't know. I haven't been back to Europe since.

I don't doubt they can detect drugs too, but I don't think that is their primary reason for doing this. I'd bet less than 1% of the drugs are flown into the country via regular commercial airlines much less are they transported domestically via airlines. They wouldn't do all of this for the sole purpose of drug detection, I doubt it was even a factor, but I am sure in their training they were prepared for coming across it during their searches.

Yep...in Mexico, and all of South America they sure are. I've spent a little time in Mexico, Peru, and Columbia (and one AWESOME trip to Costa Rica) over the years. And yes...the entire cultures of Latin America are VERY Catholic.

It really is amazing what scams are going on these days.
