Wordpress Guru's

I have a friend who wants to start getting into wordpress coding and learning more about wordpress. He's a college CS student and is looking for some great URL's to learn from.

If you know of a web site that would be beneficent from please feel free to post it.

This includes places to find themes, great plugins and any other resource you can think of!

I don't know of a website that I would recommend, but I do have PDF copies of Wordpress for Dummies and the Wordpress Bible Gold Edition 2010. Email me at drriley at gmail dot com if you would like copies.

I recommend you send him to the library. There are a few really good books on the subject, and it's much easier to have a tutorial next to you in print while you try to learn it on the PC instead of switching windows. Plus, it's free so that's always nice.

I learned over time by searching for solutions on individual problems as they cropped up, so I never found a single resource that covered everything, although I'm sure it exists.

Understanding assembly language would enable you to understand any other programming language.

Themeforest.net is how my friend learned, never having seen WP before. Now works at a design studio. There's not much to learn about it really. Just give him a job and tell him to get it done. 5 themes later he'll be rockin.

Don't know about his skill level with css in general but I've tutored several people by now, and from what I've noticed its best to just point them to the default wordpress template :)

Take it apart, see what is what and what goes where, try changing stuff etc etc

As soon as he figures the key elements, he'll be able to do on the fly modifications to functions.php in no time :)
