I'm all for getting the level of the stock pile down on nukes, they scared the hell out me when I handled them then, knowing that so many countries have them doesn't help me at all, but reading this article makes me wonder if Obama is trying to pass yet another piece of bad legislation on the American public, people hear what he says and say yes, but don't read the fine print.

i wondered when this will come up and what way it will be twisted to "nuke" a treaty that was negotiated for years and finally agreed on.

btw - Russia might join NATO and also join in on the missile defense. and the nuclear arsenal on both sides can destroy life on this planet multiple times anyways - also after START 2.

the only reason to target this now is to avoid any small chance of positive news for Obama. any. welcome to the powerless States of America

Who are all these people in NATO, and Russia if they join, protecting themselves from with the missile defense system? Aren't NATO countries about the only countries who have the capabilities of long range missiles?

we have enough nukes just on subs to wipe out the entire world...

this whole treaty business is nothing but a play to try to get the smaller countries to limit their nukes..

it is claimed this would protect us against Iran and North Korea - but it is neither clear if they have long range missiles, are about to develop them or will be ever able to build them. but the sense (or non-sense) of that thing is not the point here - it's about lowering nuclear warheads to 1500 each for the US and Russia - a number you would think that is far more than enough anyways

Oh, geez. It's because the current START treaty expires December 5th, at which time US inspectors are no longer allowed in Russia military installations. Right now the US knows the extent of Russia's military arsenal, but come Dec 5th that will change unless this new treaty gets signed. You even have the head of the Russian military saying in public that come Dec 5th, Russia will begin deploying new missile technology throughout the country, because they'll no longer be under any obligation to allow the US to see what their arsenal is.
