Friday I got certified mail

...from the State Tax board...placing a lien against my home for unpaid property tax. Saturday I received a new bill for this years property tax...and it included last years property tax. I make out a check every year paying the property tax in full. I keep records for at least five years so I have proof that I paid last years property tax and my bank statement shows that they indeed cashed the check.

I am kind of looking forward to Monday and sparring with them over this matter.

i guess not every angry old anti-social kook who's barricaded himself into a shack doesn't necessarily have to end up killing somebody or himself, maybe this one will have a happy ending :thumbsup

It seems lately like every business in existence is trying to fuck over as many people as possible just to see if they can get away with it.

You should play their game and pay whatever they ask for a while, then down the line act like you just found out what's going on and sue them for all the "pain and suffering" it's caused your family having to pay so much taking money away from supporting your family.

....I keed.

DWB 11-22-2010 03:08 AM

The IRS pulled that on me once. Sent me a bill for shit I'd already paid on + interest. Wasn't as easy to work it out with them as you would think, even with proof.

CurrentlySober 11-22-2010 03:10 AM

Even though I am looking forward to to sparring with them...I have also learned from previous experience that it can be time consuming to get wrongs corrected...and yeah there was penalties and interest as well as an assessment fee that was added. I am not worried though as ultimately I can prove that they cashed my check last year.

I suspect that they have account numbers screwed up...but I will find out today what in the hell is going on.

adwank 11-22-2010 04:54 AM

That sucks...

You can prove that a cheque for the right amount was cashed. Not by who...

Barry-xlovecam 11-22-2010 06:21 AM

The banks are not required to give you copies of your canceled checks today (in the US). However, checks are photo imaged including their endorsement and can be requested of the bank (at some cost?).

I once unintentionally overlooked making a property tax payment, was billed later as delinquent, couldn't find that payment I thought I had paid and just made that payment along with a small penalty and interest.

If the check was stolen and deposited by a person other that the "taxman" ? you have not paid the tax. You will have to pay it and its penalty and interest for late payment.

You can press criminal charges against the person who cashed the check ...

Who would cash a check made out to the county tax assessor's office? Not likely ...

marketsmart 11-22-2010 08:05 AM

they probably got confused because you faked your own death...

maybe you should point them to all the threads you made here and they will probably determine that you are batshit crazy and drop any further collection attempts...

If this is the kind of thing you look forward to -- the kind of "battle" that defines you -- you are surely one miserable fuck.

I salute you.

goodsites 11-22-2010 08:59 AM

this is not news, this is the game played every year.. you now have to prove you paid, with a picture of the check, and you now have to probably pay your bank research fee's to get it..

They have connections and they use them, but i think this is phoney because i think it take 3 years for a lein to be placed

Somebody doesn't have a checking account yet. :1orglaugh

My checks to the IRS from last year have a big stamp on the back that say "United States Treasury - For Deposit Only."

candyflip 11-22-2010 09:38 AM

Rot in hell Pathfinder. You no good piece of shit. I piss on your grave.

Paul Markham 11-22-2010 09:43 AM

I'm trying to work out why you pay property tax as you must live in a home for the mentally unstable. LOL

Seriously. Monday your balls are in a vice. Arguing with the tax man is like banging your head against a brick wall. Gets you nothing but pain.

But how come it got to the level of them putting a lien on your house. Don't they send reminders that you didn't pay?

There are comments that make DVTimes appears more intelligent than you. :2 cents:

theking 11-22-2010 05:56 PM

The matter has been resolved...it was a mix up in account numbers. They are supposed to send me a letter stating that I do not have a lien and that I am not delinquent in my taxes.

IllTestYourGirls 11-22-2010 06:02 PM

Apart from the fact that cheque use is dying out in Europe, cheques just go out of my bank account as the cheque number and the amount.
