If no valid return address on the envelope could very well be a scam as the RBS has been targeted by Nigerians. I'd call the bank to find out if the checks are real.

That's my bank back home. Give them a call and ask if it is legit. Personal checks have the persons name on it with their account number and sort code, so you should be able to see all that info and determine if it is real or not.

I get checks from Payserve that are drawn on the royal bank of scotland so maybe them?
