My brother did the same thing with his hunting knife.

Though we shouldn't be admitting things like this... they'll bump security up even more.

this is simply way beyond insanity - i wonder how anyone can justify this
Quote:

A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they?re going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA Guy: You can?t take those on the plane.

Soldier: What? I?ve had them since we left country.

TSA Guy: You?re not suppose to have them.

Soldier: Why?

TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.

Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I?m allowed to take it on.

TSA Guy: Yeah but you can?t use it to take over the plane. You don?t have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?

TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I?ll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security]

obama's people just justified all this before congress this week.

kinda makes you miss Bush, eh?:winkwink:

Phoenix 11-19-2010 07:13 AM

i just wanted to comment on this again.

so this is a flight full of heroes for the usa...people who had just risked their lives to defend the very freedom that those tsa agents take for granted living at home.

these heroes are subjected to the same ill thought out treatment as everyone else and it pisses them off. I suspect its only a matter of time until some big time politician goes incognito to get felt up and makes a big deal about this. These sort of unifying moments in time are always good for the politician who takes advantage of it.

i hear one airport jut kicked the tsa idiots out...i wodner who will replace them.

one more thing, im sorry if this offends anyone, but each and every person should be checked. there are levels of checking that should apply though.

regular traveller? doesnt need to be checked much, there is mountains of data on us already. confirm who they are and let them go.

new travellers should be checked top to bottom.

people who paid cash...top to bottom

muslims...sorry but if we can molest heroes on the way home, muslims can be frisked as well.

christians....anyone declaring allegiance to any invisible being should be checked :)

/rant

for example:

i am not allowed to bring my own water on a plane cause it's potentially an explosive but then i have to dump it in a regular trash bin instead of having it evacuated by a bomb squad :upsidedow

and so on...

Security from the private sector. They'll still have to abide by TSA regulations, but the thought behind the move is that TSA agents have become too aggressive in their job, and private sector security would be able to be held more accountable than the TSA agents.

A congressman wrote his local airports to request they ditch TSA agents and use private sector.

Yes, like your hands, for example. Especially if you're a trained soldier who is just returning from war in Afghanistan.

Maybe we should just put everyone into a strait jacket as they board a plane.

Sly 11-19-2010 08:23 AM

LOL. In the article the TSA agent claimed that the soldier could not take over the plane with his gun because he had no bullets. That's pretty funny. One quick smack with the gun, game over. Multiply that by over 100 soldiers on the plane... in which at least one of them probably has flying experience of some sort... kaboom.

Those darn clippers.

I have no problem with not rushing through a vote on this and considering the people who want to delay the vote have VASTLY more experience in the subject than obama does, I see no need to rush anything.
obama's shrill reply doesn't instill much confidence either:

"This is not a matter that can be delayed," Obama said. "Every month that goes by without a treaty means that we are not able to verify what's going on on the ground in Russia. And if we delay indefinitely, American leadership on nonproliferation and America's national security will be weakened."

but thats it? one thing?
surely there are more things doing the US harm by not giving obama his way

i guess you are unfamiliar with the term "sarcasm"...

In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in ?What a fine musician you turned out to be!? or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, ?You couldn't play one piece correctly if you had two assistants.? The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflection ...[7]

Hostile, critical comments may be expressed in an ironic way, such as saying "don't work too hard" to a lazy worker. The use of irony introduces an element of humour which may make the criticism seem more polite and less aggressive. Sarcasm can frequently be unnoticed in print form, often times requiring the inflection or tone of voice to indicate the quip.

Don't be so stupid. It's because the current START treaty expires on December 5th, at which time all current US inspectors get booted from Russia. The US currently knows the extent of Russia's arsenal, but unless this treaty is signed, they won't after Dec 5th. For example:

Quote:

Additionally, the head of Russia's strategic missile forces, Nikolai Solovtsov, told news agencies that Russia would start deploying its next-generation RS-24 missiles after the December 5 expiry of the START-1 treaty with the United States.
Ironic part being, if Bush was currently in power, you'd probably believe this is an extremely important issue. Nonetheless, it's currently Nov 19th, and the treaty expires on Dec 5th, so I'd say it's pretty important, wouldn't you?

Screw the gerber tool, the nail clippers and the gun. The fact that there are 200+ soldiers on the plane is 200+ more than that would be needed to take over the plane.

Incompetence at its best.

If true, that is some fucked up shit.

One thing I did find funny about that post is that all of the commenters forgot who started TSA and the no nail clipper rule. They blame it on Obama, but without Bush there wouldn't even had been a TSA (or DHS).

Probably the same people that bitch about wasteful spending while forgetting a Republican President, with the help of the Republican Congress, started the second largest government organization.

TSA was created with a two-year original intention. The airports can opt out. They simply didn't. One of those things where once something is set up, it doesn't get taken away.

I don't see this as Obama's fault, I do see it as the fault of a government branch being able to make laws/policies with no accountability to the people.

What a cluster fuck. This needs to be put in check NOW or heaven help us all.

MetaMan 11-19-2010 10:52 AM

This is part of the plan. They are pumping the USA economy full of useless bills to play against china since countries have wised up that the dollar is useless.

They are going to thin out the american economy just enough to that the people have to beg the government to take control.

This will be a slow dwindling process. The troops will come home just before they launch a new currency or new version of a currency (5-10 years).

The troops will then be used as civilian police force as things are put back in place.

The scanners are a small test to see how much they can slow and restrict peoples flying and or transportation.

Whoever "they" are ie top government officials realized long ago you cant force a country like America into massive change. Instead you pervert its people with war and media. Then you use those same tactics against them on a home grown level.

As people become perverted to war and violence they are more likely for it to be allowed to be used on them.

CurrentlySober 11-19-2010 10:59 AM

I've posted this before ut I'll tel the story again.

Wife and I are flying from London to LAX, travelling biz class... We get 'bumped up' to 1st Class... Lovely !

We go through a special 1st class security gate. Wife has 'tiny' set of nail clippers taken off her, as hey are a 'weapon'...

We dont make a fuss, and are soon sat in 1st class seats. Stewardess appears, and instantly hands us both a complementary glass of champagne... IN CUT CRYSTAL LONG STEMMED GLASSES!

My 1st thought was that if I had wanted to cause trouble on that flight, it would have been pretty difficult with a pair of ail clippers... But now all I need to do, is to break the glasses and shove the stem through her neck...

Great 'security'...

96ukssob 11-19-2010 11:11 AM

If you haven't learned by now, ONLY bring what is extremely necessary on the plane. you can buy nail clippers and whatever else once you get through security.

Regardless of if you think it is ok to bring or not, TSA has the final answer. As much as I think they are knuckle dragging morons, they have the power over everyone. Don't argue, just throw out your $1 nail clippers or your $1.59 bottle of water, is it really worth missing a flight over?

Remember, TSA agents are people to, and most dont like their job so be nice to them, ask them how their day is going, etc, and it will go a LONG way promise me.

I fly 2x or so a month from east to west coast and have yet to ever been stopped or questioned. While, I'll see morons arguing over something stupid, like a bottle of conditioner and be detained and miss their flight.

Fact is terrorist won, they made our lives now an inconvenience for what was an enjoyable experience :2 cents:

Ohhh, so best to let the treaty expire, and open up the opportunity for another cold war. Especially when the Russian economy is doing quite well, and US economy continually fades down the shitter. Brilliant idea! You should run for world chancellor.

The missile defense system isn't going to make anything more secure, and especially not the US when you're sticking the missile batteries in Poland.

I'd say the US nuclear arsenal that's on submarines, which are floating around 24x7 is about all the defense you need. Besides, when was the last time someone shot a missile at the US? Oh right... never! Everyone in the world knows the US has the capability of turning any region of the world into a sheet of glass within about 30 minutes, so I highly doubt anyone is going to be firing missiles your way.

TSA forces cancer survivor to show prosthetic breast

Quote:

A longtime Charlotte, N.C., flight attendant and cancer survivor told a local television station that she was forced to show her prosthetic breast during a pat-down.

Cathy Bossi, who works for U.S. Airways, said she received the pat-down after declining to do the full-body scan because of radiation concerns.

The TSA screener "put her full hand on my breast and said, 'What is this?' " Bossi told the station. "And I said, 'It's my prosthesis because I've had breast cancer.' And she said, 'Well, you'll need to show me that.' "

Bossi said she removed the prosthetic from her bra. She did not take the name of the agent, she said, "because it was just so horrific of an experience, I couldn't believe someone had done that to me. I'm a flight attendant. I was just trying to get to work."

For Americans who wear prosthetics ? either because they are cancer survivors or have lost a limb ? or who have undergone hip replacements or have a pacemaker, the humiliation of the TSA's new security procedures ? choosing between a body scan or body search ? is even worse.

Musa Mayer has worn a breast prosthesis for 21 years since her mastectomy and is used to the alarms it sets off at airport security. But nothing prepared her for the "invasive and embarrassing" experience of being patted down, poked and examined recently while passing through airport security at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.

"I asked the supervisor if she realized that there are 3 million women who have had breast cancer in the U.S., many of whom wear breast prostheses. Will each of us now have to undergo this humiliating, time-consuming routine every time we pass through one of these new body scanners?" she said in an e-mail to msnbc.com.
