Cops bust 7 men for playing chess in a park

A squad of cops in bulletproof vests swooped into an upper Manhattan park and charged seven men with the "crime" of playing chess in an area off-limits to adults unaccompanied by kids -- even though no youngsters were there.

The chess tables where they were ticketed for "failure to comply with signs" are in a fenced-in area where posted notices read: "Adults allowed in playground areas only when accompanied by a child under the age of 12."

I wonder how long until it's illegal to be out in public between 7am - 9am and 2p - 3p (when the kids going to and from school) unless accompanied by a minor? It seems a little hysterical to me to ban people with no prior record from a public park merely because they don't have kids with them. Parents need to be watching their kids at all times regardless.

That is interesting. It seems the chess table was in a child playground area. The chess table was not in an adult area.

Is this park maintained with public funds? If so they need to do a chess-in and then sue.

Why? Reading all these "news" from america it seems that 90% of the US citizens are pedophiles. They are going into park to stare at kids and wait for a moment they will be able to rape and kill them. What a miserable country and fuckin' cowed people there?!!

Couple points:

• Nobody wants your bloody kids. Trust me. You may think they're the most special people in the world, but honestly, the vast majority of us just see them as a couple more snotty nosed, loud, small people running around. Nobody wants them. You popped them out, they're your problem, not ours.
• If someone actually wants your kids, they're going to get them, regardless if the city puts up signs on the park's fences.
• Do you really want your kid growing up, scared of every adult? How horrible! What happens if your kid gets lost, or needs help? He/she won't feel comfortable talking to anyone. What a shitty way to grow up.
• Like it or not, 98% of people out there are good people.

Is there not some way to chase off a suspected pedo as opposed to banning everyone? I don't understand why we always have to ban everyone when something goes wrong. Create a way to isolate the real problem and address the real problem. This is something we tend to do nonstop.

If some dude is standing by the fence everyday staring at little kids funny, hey, something is wrong and that is suspicious behavior. Question him? Find out what's going on?

I can tell your a secret. Pedophile is a sick person. This is a mental illness but not a crime. If somebody haunts/seduces/rapes a kid - he/she is criminal and must be punished according to the law. However not all kid rapists are pedophiles and not all pedophiles are rapists. There is must be a line between the mental sickness and the real crime. This is obvious for any non-american person, but in the USA you guys can't live without a witch hunt. I think all the US "nation" is glued on it. You need a "national enemy" to stay together. Many years ago you burned women on fire, after that you hanged blacks, some time ago you were hunting "commies", after that it was Soviet aggression against peaceful Afghani Taliban people.
