CHP Motorcycle VS. Toyota Prius [pics]
I was at an intersection in Emeryville, CA with this guy about a 1/4 mile before this happened. A little ways down the road, I glanced at my speed and saw 40mph in a 30mph zone. He was about 400 feet ahead of me, so he was moving at a pace of around 50-60mph. I had my eye on him the whole time... and saw the very moment a Toyota Prius crossed the intersection without seeing him, and he went full force right into the side of the car. Didn't even have time to apply the brakes.
He did a pretty spectacular cartwheel over the car. Insanely brutal accident, and shocking to see it happen. Here are the photos, taken seconds after it happened: http://www.serialmedia.com/chp-accid...01116-1407.jpg http://www.serialmedia.com/chp-accid...01116-1407.jpg http://www.serialmedia.com/chp-accid...01116-1415.jpg http://www.serialmedia.com/chp-accid...01116-1419.jpg |
Damn! That was bad!
Was the officer running his emergency lights and siren at the time of the accident? |
Did you cum?
|
is that the rider on his knees in the photo? looks like he was very lucky
|
He was Lucky to be alive given that impact point. Damn.
|

God that gives me chills...
I've t-boned cars on a bike 2 times. First time was in the mid 80s on a Harley chopper a friend was letting me try out, a car going the other way made a left turn right into my path, I laid on the brakes and the backend started to slide out just as I hit the passenger door, I was probably only going about 35 when I hit but it threw me off and my right knee went through the window and bent the frame, I flipped over the car and did a tuck-and-roll on the other side. I stood up thinking I was fine when my knee decided it didn't want to work anymore and I fell over again :1orglaugh To this day if I stand up wrong you'll hear my knee pop from across the room, followed by me screaming. The other time was in 92, I got a sweet tooth and took my old Honda Magna to Baskin-Robbins one night at around 9:00, on my way back on a main road I was going around 60 when again a car going the other way made a U-turn right into my path just as I hit the intersection. This time I had just enough time to lay on front and rear brakes and half stand up before my bike planted itself in the rear passenger door. I was thrown completely over the car, I never touched it. But... I landed flat on my back around 40 feet down the road and ended up with a whole bunch of herniated discs and a broken hand. Then the old fuck that I hit drove around me laying in the middle of the street and started to leave before another car chased him down and got him to stop. The guy was so old he didn't even know what had happened until somebody told him, the impact broke my bike in half, the rear passenger door of his corolla was caved completely in. I don't ride much anymore but lately I have been thinking about getting another bike...:helpme |
happens everyday here, 100's of times. Ive seen more brains on pavement then I can count.
I t-boned a cop car in Chicago and got away with it. His fault, running a red light, no emergency signals. |

Looks like cowboy cop got knocked off his horse...LOL

jesus christ... he's SO lucky he didn't get killed

My old roommate rear ended a car once on his motorcycle. He was only doing about 20 on a freeway offramp and BAM.
We were going to the same college but left at different times so we took separate vehicles, I was like 3 cars ahead of him and had no idea. He called me and after I found out he was okay I started laughing at him because usually it's the other way around and cars rear end motorcycles because they don't see them. |
OMG, such accidents happens every day all over the world.
|
sounds like the Toyota ran the :stop sing
|
the problem in the states, is people are not programmed to watch out for motorcycles because there are so few of them. So you get to an intersection and your instinct is to look for things that have the shape of a car.
I doubt the guy ran the stop sign, rather, he looked, didn't see a car and made the decision to go and ignored the shape of the motorcycle subconsciously. When Im driving a car here in Thailand, all Im thinking about is motorbikes, where are they, which direction they are coming from. They are everywhere and you have to be very defensive in your driving because nobody follows any laws here. |

Like on the highway when over taking, most people check their mirrors for cars and trucks so they wont see the motorcycle even though its there. |
He'll be driving carfuly for a while now...

When I started riding street bikes many years ago my uncle who was a 30 year veteran of the CHP told me: "When you climb on that bike you and it effectively become invisible, I can't tell you how many car vs bike accidents I've been to but they all had one thing in common, the words vehicle driver states that he did not see the motorcycle are in all of the accident reports" Aside from the accidents I've had I've also had enough near misses where car drivers tried to run me over to realize just how true his words were. |
There is no excuse in the US to be on a motorcycle and get into an accident. You weren't paying attention to everything around you. People don't see you at all, its like you don't exist. Thats something you figure out in the first 5 minutes... and a point that gets driven home as people constantly swerve into you, pull out in front of you and drive like you aren't there.

I received a call from the Prius driver's insurance company this afternoon, and he recorded a statement from me regarding what I saw. I said "everything I can tell you should be in the police report... the police took 1 1/2 pages of testimony from me at the accident scene..." He said "that's odd... those pages are missing".
That was the statement I gave to the CHP that their officer was going around 50-60mph at the time of impact. Their investigation places the Prius driver at fault, saying he ran the stop sign, despite that no evidence exists to support that. They also said that the CHP officer was going 30mph. Well, let me tell you... I looked down at my speedometer seconds before the impact to check my speed, and it said 40mph... and the CHP officer was a full block and a half ahead of me, and we had just left a stoplight together. There's no way in hell he was only going 30mph. I would have had to be going 10mph in order for that to be correct. So... we've got the CHP doctoring evidence, false statements, and outright lying on accident reports. Pretty interesting stuff. |
Are you saying the cop was going 50-60 in a 30?

I've see this a thousand times... Dirty cops and a young buck adult webmaster way too eager to take the whole force down.. If I was the OP, I would call the FBI and see if they could put me in some type of witness protection program.. Although, that might be dangerous too.. Those law enforcement guys stick together.. At this point, it might be better to go into hiding and find some trustworthy news reporter from the L.A. time to print your story.. That might just keep the OP safe for the time being... . |

Where is the video and pics of the Prius driver getting his ass kicked by the LA police?
Maybe they should arrest you for interfering with a police investigaation and speeding since you admit you were doing atleat 10mph over the speed limit and breaking the law yourself? Have you ever been ticket or arrested before for speeding or dirving offenses? maybe you have a beef with law enforcment? thats what the Cops lawyer will ask when you go to court to testify...except the part about the ass kicking lol. LOL Just Sayin :) <---banned? |

Even if I was the biggest cop hater in the universe, the fact is that he doubled my distance in a very short time period. For the record, I'm not a cop hater. I'm an idiot hater. I'm a corruption hater. I'm a hater of liars. And no, I didn't say I was exceeding the speed limit. I didn't want them to give me a speeding ticket. |

from what i got out of his statment he looked at his speedometer and saw he was doing 40 in a 30mph zone and the cop had to be going faster because he passed him? i know he wasnt involved in the accident and was only a witness. my point is..he inserted himself in this situation and made certain statements that will be questioned in a court of law. :helpme oh and CandyFlip coming from you thats a compliment:1orglaugh |

That would be incorrect. My estimate of speed wasn't based on opinion, it was based on science. If you're both here at one point: |-------------------------------------- |-------------------------------------- And then a few seconds later you're here: ----------|---------------------------- And the other guy is here: ----------------------------------|---- And you look at your speedometer, and you're already well above the speed limit, that means the other guy is doing probably double your speed. Now, maybe if my judgement was somehow affected... for instance, if I were drunk or high... then maybe the accuracy claim could be debated. But that's not what we're talking about. Trust me when I say I'm pretty good with speed estimates. |
