Jim_Gunn 11-17-2010 05:01 PM

I always loved Husker Du's version of "Eight Miles High"

Vjo 11-17-2010 05:08 PM

Husker Du! I like it man, I like it. Doesnt retain much melody but I listened all the way. :)

reminds me of a great carnival

just love the song and the energy plus I got a lil disco in me :)

one of best songs ever

love this, what can you say, take the pill, it's 1967 :)

nice, you could never have seen these before youtube

Vjo 11-17-2010 05:51 PM

look at them yoyos, that's the way you do it, post porn on the web all dayz - still a great song

time to get the Ozzy brigade to post something from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

carrying on with oldies but goodies, just found this, it is a bit "gay" by todays standards, lol but a good song in the late 60s

sweet, found a way better version, was a young baddog at this concert.. Cal Jam 2 Saturday March 18 1978 10:00 am, in the front row drooling over Stevie? even money says yes :)

into the 80's, big party at Mister Peabodys tonight..

BlackCrayon 11-17-2010 06:38 PM

love the byrds, love eight miles high. to me it seemed to represent a lot of what was going on at the time (though i wasn't around for it). I was listening to their Sweetheart of the Rodeo album the other day, a great often overlooked album by the byrds. Sure, its a bit different being their take on country but its a good listen.

BlackCrayon 11-17-2010 06:40 PM

and just for fun...

Vjo 11-17-2010 06:44 PM

i looked out this morning and the sun was gone
turned on some music to start my day
lost myself in a familiar song
i closed my eyes and i slipped away

Keep forgetting there are only 22 of us over 40 on GFY. :) The kids around age 15, now again like classic rock, it's true, it is coming back around.

BTW you can NOT post vids like this on a private site. Perhaps GFY pays a royalty? I know I toyed around with streaming embeds on a private site but you get "sorry no go" messages on the vids.

Guess YT isnt going to let me make millions on their vids :1orglaugh

btw, when is the next song like this coming out?

BlackCrayon 11-17-2010 06:54 PM

great 'concept' album by the pretty things

Summertimes Blues awesome!

Heres some killer kick ass shite
Deep Purple - Hush

BOC - Godzilla (short version with godzilla footage..heh)
Was surprised to find that Smashing Pumpkins did a version of this tune, but the boc original is an all time kick ass rocker!

Vjo 11-17-2010 07:09 PM

Indeed the Byrds are the fucken best. They all must have been smokin some good shit. Just a talent explosion around 1970. Most of us were very young if alive at all. ok a couple dudes were actually at the scene. :)

I just remember buying my first 45 record in 1967..

ok if ya made it this far I'll confess, I was 10 years old

it was... drumroll..

Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made For Walking

my second?

Beatles - Nowhere Man

and from 1967 till really about 1971 I had every good 45 that came out and then on to albums.. ect

I gave em all to a buddy :) I got most of the mp3s anyhow. :)

so for the guys who enjoy this thread.. on a wed.. you are my heros.. he who doesnt work and fucks off all day.. wins :) Classic 70's hedonism mentality. :)

may the luck and signups be on your side

he's a real

Vjo 11-17-2010 08:09 PM

classic includes 50's, 40's (swing) they lose me :)

i was just thinking of this guy too as I heard some of his stuff lately, way ahead of his time, he would have went on to be lengendary

Vjo 11-17-2010 08:27 PM

6 minutes of heaven from the Us Festival.

Rik Emmet is the Canadian Eddie Van Halen.

Vjo 11-17-2010 08:59 PM

Good to see a fellow purple head, i got my license in 1972 and we wore out these four (and moire) 8 tracks, yes a couple last 8 tracks. :)

Deep Purple - Machine Head
Humble Pie - Smokin
Santana - Abraxus
Pink Floyd - Dark Side..

and many more, on and on

Let me tell ya, you havent lived if you never heard Santana - Abraxus quadraphonic on an 8 track. :) Pure 100% channel seperation. Best thing I ever heard. Seriously. Very heady. :) In Floyd's league.

heres a couple more obscure but very sweet cuts from those afore mentioned classic albums..

what a nice find, video to this song

this song we checked bass with, if the woofers didnt rattle.. good system

Vjo 11-17-2010 09:14 PM

CD, good stuff, maybe you heard this but Grand Funk was my first concert, American Band Tour, 1974, St Paul Minn, St Paul Civic Center

It kicked. They started with this song. Me and my long haired friend had stopped by a budds house over on east Lake St and about 40th Ave. By the time we went further east to St Paul in his 1966 Rambler(!) we were feeling no pain Jane.

way awesome drums in person, filmed it on Super 8 lol

turn it up, the opening drums are killer

the fucken drummer also does the singing and that isnt even Mark Farner (i think that's Farner on Guitar) guy is crancked up just awesome

CDSmith 11-17-2010 09:29 PM

I know from past music threads of yours that you're a GFR fan. But I just happen to love that song, and that band for that matter.

Here's a Canadian classic rock rebuttal to "we're an American band"....

Trooper, one of the greatest Canadian rock bands that never made it into the US market.

Meaning --- you Americans missed out.

CDSmith 11-17-2010 09:38 PM

Here's an unsung all-but-forgotten hit by Blue Oyster Cult

Still gives me chills.

Vjo 11-17-2010 09:49 PM

PS for the record it was 1966 and I was only 9 when I bought my first 45. :) Cmon I should have remebered Boots and Nowhere Man are 66.

I feel like Beatles.. listened to this a lot in the pizza delivery years in the cold and dead of winter nights.. in my 1981 Toyota Tercel with virtually no heater. When you are there (6 1/2 years it goes on forever) now it looks like a blink.. it was 15 years ago I delivered my last.

Sometimes I want to deliver pizzas again. I still dream about it. But in reality no. :)

\

in my dreams i cant get runs correct, I cant find addresses, i fuck up everything

in reality i was the best

CDSmith 11-17-2010 10:04 PM

Black Crayon hit one out of the park with that Amboy dukes tune.

And all the Deep Purple in here wins huge. Awesome love for that.

Here's some Goddo, another Canadian Act that was huge here at one time but never broke the US market...

Incredible guitarwork by Scarpelli and Godovitz.

If you listen to only one song in this thread, may it be this one.

Vjo 11-17-2010 10:26 PM

Good song CD, never heard that one before. My style, a little more pop than most Blue Oyster Cult I ve heard. I have never took time to really listen deeper to them. in reality there is so much unheard good music.

Vjo 11-17-2010 10:45 PM

Fuck Eddie V may have his hands full competing with Rik Emmet.

Pretty good and indeed same style. Never heard of him, The music is very VH like as well.

i get up and nothing gets me down

kick ass walk in song for some UFC fighter

doing alright, little driving on a Saturday night (very nice live version)

Vjo 11-17-2010 11:13 PM

well it's almost time for Elvis to leave the building

Kentucky rain keeps pouring down

searching for you in the cold Kentucky rain

what is up tonight Kentucky? is it raining on them lonely Kentucky backroads?

Vjo 11-17-2010 11:23 PM

i could live without love if i wanted to

i got my pills to ease the pain

Vjo 11-17-2010 11:41 PM

Goddo remind me of Bon Jovi a bit or maybe Bad Company. They are talented. Weird how one country mirrors anoither and we never heard of them. :)

are we ready for the heavies :) i once freaked out on this (i think) :)

all in all

Vjo 11-18-2010 12:09 AM

Thank you and goodnight.

Elvis has left the building.
