should I upgrade to Windows 7?

I've been using Vista for a while now and it works fine for me. However sometimes at the end of long day it does seem to bog down and get a little slow.

Of those of you who have upgraded to Windows 7, does it really make your life that much easier and is it really worth doing?

qwe 11-16-2010 09:49 PM

yes do it

carzygirls 11-16-2010 09:50 PM

yes... just be prepared. many things will not work like you want at first and google is then your friend

epitome 11-16-2010 09:51 PM

Yes :thumbsup

Spunky 11-16-2010 09:52 PM

The main stuff I use every day is openoffice, dreamweaver, photoshop, email, Digsby and few other things. Are there any particular things you had issues with not working correctly?

CYF 11-16-2010 10:00 PM

vista sucks, 7 is definitely better.

photoshop was fine, email thru outlook was fine, not sure about the others.

The biggest software problem I had was autocad which just didn't work at all and forced to buy the updated version...

Cool thanks for the info. I think I am going to do the upgrade. Sometimes I just worry that I am going to move up and hate it. I moved from Win 98 to ME and felt the pain. Ever since I have been a little gun shy :)

windows 7 is much better, google is your friend. One of the things that irritated me the most was the search function not working to find text within files... I found the answer just took me a couple hours. By default, it does not index your files on hardrive, you have to change settings manually.

Overall though... much better OS then XP, vista and others :thumbsup

Mike Honcho 11-17-2010 12:27 AM

Yes you should.

KillerK 11-17-2010 01:33 AM

I hesitated for a long ass time. XP was a hard habit to break. Been on Win 7 since I upgraded to a new laptop a few months ago. Not bad.

for me, I think the philosophy "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies, no matter how good Windows 7 is, there will be some issues when you upgrade, so you end up spending time upgrading some software or dealing with different drivers needed, etc.

Still on XP Pro on everything here and no plans to change that any time soon.

anexsia 11-17-2010 04:38 AM

Arch Linux!

Zuzana Designs 11-17-2010 04:40 AM

Yes, I upgraded on all my computers and I love it.

seeandsee 11-17-2010 04:41 AM

Grzejnick 11-17-2010 04:51 AM

Its time to move :)
You should be happy

Herb Kornfield 11-17-2010 05:51 AM

Seven is the only number you need :) Windows 7 rocks!

Matyko 11-17-2010 05:56 AM

I recommend you to upgrade.
I got a Home edition for my notebook, and plan to upgrade to the best possible version... Anyone knows if its possible w/o re-installing the OS and paying online for the upgrade?

Jdoughs 11-17-2010 06:00 AM

Using Vista is like still driving a 74 Datsun because it 'still works'.

Seriously, anything that old in computer technology is ancient. You know this (anyone posting here should).

You need to at least try it judging from the replies here, most people were happy they did.

x-rate 11-17-2010 06:18 AM

Vista suck you should be with 7 already....

u-Bob 11-17-2010 06:28 AM

It's better than Vsita, but I don't like the kindergarten interface and the fact that explorer hides half of the important stuff for you.

Windows XP Pro X64 is still the best out there!

SmellyNose 11-17-2010 06:29 AM

Yes, you should upgrade to Windows 7 at once

MrCain 11-17-2010 06:32 AM

Yes, you should :)

iSpyCams 11-17-2010 06:55 AM

Vista drove me to Mac.

Windows 7 brought me back.

VHNet 11-17-2010 07:10 AM

much faster, more reliable vs. vista and windows xp.

much less annoying with the UAC too.

love windows 7 -- it's what vista SHOULD have been.

DWB 11-17-2010 07:33 AM

I have some systems on W7 but I still prefer XP. EVERYTHING workes perfectly on XP and I know how to fix just about any issue that pops up.

:2 cents: some things are different, renewing ips etc

also i had some trouble with hardware/drivers at the beginning

erooup 11-17-2010 10:25 AM

Have you applied ServicePack 1 to Vista? If you do, it will fix most of the difference between Vista and Win7

Download it here:

Ross 11-17-2010 11:13 AM

Windows 7 is pretty good. I use it on my work PC, still have Vista on my laptop which is fine as well. Won't bother upgrading that, I'll wait till I need a new laptop before I go to Windows 7.

woj 11-17-2010 11:21 AM

it's pretty good, but not really worth paying for an upgrade... I would wait for the next version of windows... :2 cents:

travs 11-17-2010 11:27 AM

Win7 rocks, man. do it.
