GE is is buying 25,000 electric cars

They are converting half their fleet of cars to electric cars by 2015.

"By electrifying our own fleet, we will accelerate the adoption curve, drive scale, and move electric vehicles from anticipation to action,"
Good for them. I want an electric car!

its just the batteries that are a pain. heavy. expensive and takes ages to charge.

but one interesting fact is electric cars are faster than petrol.

KillerK 11-11-2010 04:47 PM

"Still, only 30,000 electric vehicles are expected to be sold next year, out of a projected 13 million new cars. "

Wow, apparently people don't want to spend the extra cash for electric cars yet.

More interesting ideas for the future: remote controlled cars, robot chaffeur and car that drives itself.

Brujah 11-11-2010 04:56 PM

No wonder Warren Buffet invested so much in GE. He can see the future.

Plus, John Titor said the time machine is made by GE.

Yes, that is correct.

xxweekxx 11-11-2010 05:07 PM

can u imagine a ferrari running on electricity?? all that pure, natural, exhaust tone gone, or faked by sound effects???

well gasoline will always be popular.. its raw and powerful. nobody wants to be charging their fucking car

IllTestYourGirls 11-11-2010 06:54 PM

Do these cars leave a bigger carbon foot print?

HomerSimpson 11-11-2010 07:59 PM

they are cutting their costs, since they will no longer use oil/gas than will use the prower they are producing themselves and that's always cheaper than anything you have to buy from third party...

If this article is true then recharge time and how far you can drive has just become non issues.

I looked on the DBM site and it doesn't say anything about this yet but it did mention the forklifts running for 28 hours on one charge.

WebairGerard 11-11-2010 08:35 PM

looking forward to what electric models make it to the show room floor over the next few years.

DaddyHalbucks 11-11-2010 09:57 PM

Smart move. With a fleet that size, they will save zillions on service costs.

PornMD 11-12-2010 12:24 AM

Well they are General fucking Electric...makes sense.

Tickler 11-12-2010 12:52 AM

The power grids nation wide need major upgrades before too many electric cars hot the streets.

jezebelz 11-12-2010 01:35 AM

There is approximately 308.794 trillion cubic feet of untapped natural gas and roughly 57 billion barrels of oil yet to be refined in North America alone. Internal combustion engines aren't going anywhere in the foreseeable future. They've been trying to make electric cars a feasible alternative since the crude invention of them between 1832 and 1839 (the exact year is uncertain). I'm all for alternative fuel sources to decrease American foreign oil dependence, but they're looking in the wrong place. :2 cents:
