Naked Body Scanners - Some Eye Opening Concerns!
The following letter was sent to John P. Holdren in April of this year by a number of University of California faculty members concerning the dangers of naked body scanners.

Some highlights from the Letter of Concern: Our colleagues at UCSF, dermatologists and cancer experts, raise specific important concerns: ? A) The large population of older travelers, >65 years of age, is particularly at risk from the mutagenic effects of the X-rays based on the known biology of melanocyte aging. ? B) A fraction of the female population is especially sensitive to mutagenesisprovoking radiation leading to breast cancer. Notably, because these women, who have defects in DNA repair mechanisms, are particularly prone to cancer, X-ray mammograms are not performed on them. The dose to breast tissue beneath the skin represents a similar risk. ? C) Blood (white blood cells) perfusing the skin is also at risk. ? D) The population of immunocompromised individuals--HIV and cancer patients (see above) is likely to be at risk for cancer induction by the high skin dose. ? E) The risk of radiation emission to children and adolescents does not appear to have been fully evaluated. ? F) The policy towards pregnant women needs to be defined once the theoretical risks to the fetus are determined. ? G) Because of the proximity of the testicles to skin, this tissue is at risk for sperm mutagenesis. ? H) Have the effects of the radiation on the cornea and thymus been determined? :eek2 These things are just bad news. No surprise there. Buying tons of those scanners so the friends of politicians can get rich selling those things is way more important than people's safety.
Indeed, no one cares about ppl safety, it's all about the money.
Frightening. I hate flying at the best of times, this adds to it.
I will never use one of these scanners and I'm printing this letter to hand to security if I get asked to go through one of these machines.
Think i'll be flying in a lead suit from now on.
I will not go through one of those. Always ask for a hand inspection.

"Those who don?t want to subject themselves to the virtual strip-search can opt for a physical pat down. However, the pat down just became more intrusive. Instead of using the ?palms up? method, screeners are now using the hands method. This includes up and down the inside of the leg, the bra front with females and perhaps a crotch bump." :disgust |
I'm waiting for the first mofo asking us to stop complaining and taking a train to cross the sea instead
What about the young ladies that go through these things? We are talking under 18? Do parents want to subject their children to this invasion? A pat down is even worse for the children. So what exactly do parents do?
As someone with a compromised immune system, I'm going to give that as my reason for not getting scanned if they ever push the issue with me. I'm sure the looks I'll get from TSA agents will be interesting.
They're not that bad
Would be funny to see what kind on kink people have on them when going thru.
Get some SEOs pictures with nipple rings and prince albert and sell them to KB. |

I agree. These machines are bullshit. They add nothing to security and are a waste of time especially since you can choose to opt-out of being scanned and replaced with a little groping. Woohoo!
terrorists have already won.no need for any additional bombs..another winner are those corporations selling this crap..
If fifty percent of people said I'm not going to do this bullshit and didn't fly, they would stop.
I'll take the patdown any day over a dose of radiation.

Patdown please, hold the cancer
Just act like you are enjoying the pat down a bit too much.
I'm flying in a couple weeks I'll go for the patdown if the other option is the xray machine

I fly much less now than I used to. The unpleasant security theatre and the decreased comfort on the planes deters me.
I remember when flying was something people dressed up for, not a study in paying to be made to feel like a dehumanized and suspicious object. |
Does anyone know where one would look up how many people fly domestically and internationally from the United States in a given year?
I wonder if people are flying as much less as it seems like. |
ask for a hand one and when they do it, act like you're really getting off on everywhere they touch you! :) I did that in JFK when the guy was frisking me lol I had a little too much to drink so felt great and thought a little fucking around would be kool, He ended up talking to me and kinda of freaked me out where the conversation was going so I settled up! LOL

If they just checked Arabs like they should, there would be no problem.
This stupid fucking device is a result of our overdriven need to be politically correct. |
I totally agree.

This shit is far more harmful than helpful. It demoralizes & polarizes the populous, so if & when there is a terrorist attack, nobody unites to combat it. Everyone will just cower in fear, then bitch at everyone. |
