best bank for a mainstream business account?

What's a good bank for a mainstream business account? I'm using a regional bank and not very happy with them anymore.

What about using the credit union where I do my personal banking?

Looking for suggestions on banks that I can do more research on :thumbsup

I've been very happy with Chase. :pimp

I personally like local banks and credit unions best. "Give back to the community" and all of that jazz. Plus I can beat someone's door if they try stealing my money! It's true that my local credit union does not have the online capabilities of my Wells Fargo account, but overall, I still like it. Minimal fees, etc.

I've been happy with BB&T

My personal stuff is all in a large local credit union. Business is with Chase.

I've been using US Bank for a year now and have been blown away by their customer service...

I moved from Chase who was a nightmare and allowed $1k to be stolen out of my account, and have provided awful support every since they bought my old bank WaMu.

What about having personal and business accounts at the same credit union? Any pros/cons to that?

The credit union I use actually has a really nice online banking system.

I have a personal and business at one, just a business at another. I could see it being beneficial for loans and things of that nature, I have not needed anything like that so I'm not really sure. I think that having more in one bank might give you more leverage, while some would say it exposes you to more risk. Personally I think the risk at any bank is pretty minimal, so what you are looking for is fees, customer service, online banking, and possibly loans.

We have had a business account with Wachovia for many years and we are very satisfied with them. If in the south east I'll suggest also Suntrust.

I use Wells Fargo and have never had any problems... but I do everything online, to include cashing checks and such. I don't give the tellers the opportunity to see any of the paper checks or ask any questions.

this is for a mainstream account, so I'm not worried about anyone seeing company names on the checks :thumbsup

For what? If just depositing checks, completing normal transactions ? I don't think it matters.

Bank branches and their managers are what matters unless you get that "our bank policy is ..." crap ? then find another bank.

For international commerce, an account for wire in/out transactions at a money center bank may be worthwhile. Otherwise, a regional bank is fine.

Bank of America

For online transactions I use CDG commerce with Quantum Vault gateway and dump it all in my local credit union. Best setup ever.

For check cashing, paying bills, maybe the occasional wire. Don't all banks provide wires in/out?

Some smaller banks may need intermediary banks to wire transfer ( additional fees) mainly on international transfers.

I second BofA. They have always been helpful.

ahh, I see. Thanks for the info.

Do banks allow you to add your DBA to the account or do you need two separate accounts? Does that vary depending on the bank too?

Chase lets me have record of both the legal name and DBA of my entities associated with the same account, so I could feasibly accept payment made out to either name.

Plus, I can call my local branch and they all know me and do almost anything I need right over the phone (after proper verifications).

Chase rocks. :thumbsup
