Nothing new in that article.
Take for example a song released in 1983: Lyrics: I'm not anti-society, society's anti-me I'm not anti-religion, religion is anti-me I'm not anti-tradition, tradition is anti-me I'm not anti-anything, I just wanna be free Fascist state, no freedom Unless you control yourself Use self expression, lose your freedom You're undesirable, you go straight to jail Two sided politics...more for them, nothing for me Kill someone, in a war Get a medal, you're a hero Protect yourself in every day war You're a minority you go straight to jail Two sided politics...more for them, nothing for me I'm not anti-Reagan, Reagan's anti-me I'm not anti-government, government's anti-me I'm not anti-politics, politics is anti-me I'm not anti-anything, I just wannna be free Innocent, never guilty High class lawyer, you are rich If you're poor must be guilty Even if innocent you go straight to jail Two sided politics |
he makes some valid observations, even if they are broad strokes. unfortunately, he neglects to include any positive points (i.e. a counter view which is required in effective arguing) in addition to not accurately portraying several of the negatives.
overall, i give his diatribe a C- |

america has become much like the author of the commentary...dim, witless and bible toting.
on edit- "In public schools you can teach that homosexuality is ok, but you better not use the word god in the process" that statement should set off alarm bells for stupidity. it is a good example of how people's thought processes have been destroyed. |
Sounds like typical teabagger rantings.

The funny thing is if you look back to when your parents were middle aged, they complained about what "America had become" also. We complain about boys showing off their underwear in public; They complained about long hair and jeans. Back in the 1960s it was taboo to get knocked up without being married, and parents complained about the peoples.
At the same time life goes on. We buy houses, have kids, and go to work every day. Maybe we just feel the need to complain about something. |
