Personally I think it will never die but the landscape will completely change (new technology, devices, demands/behaviour of the consumers and hopefully some regulations).

The industry itself will need to adapt and to be open minded to this to survive and probably as in the airline industry there will be some star alliances to compete against the rest of the competitors.

It's kind of exciting to see what will happen with all the new tech available now and the recession going on what will come out.

I have gotten back to working on digitaldivasonline.com and actually I was expecting way more sites to be closed than actually are. Good to know many of you are hanging in there :)

It hurts sales for sure. It has helped to cause a lot of people to go out of business. However the tubes aren't always the best way to get content. Just like anything else people will get bored of it (presentation, type of content). And you will always have customers who want a lot more than they can find at the pirate sites. The sales which you do lose from the tubes now are mainly the casual porn browser. Joe sixpack who now fires up the computer and goes to redtube as opposed to surfing TGPs and eventually buying a membership.

Now if you aren't aggressive about minimizing your content being freely available then that's when you will start to get really hurt because even your best customers won't sign up when everything you have is always available. Why should they pay if your entire members area is at Pornhub on any given day? You'll not only lose the casual Joe six pack but you'll also lose your hardcore customers who want your specific content. You have a degree of control believe it or not. If you want to keep some sales you need to fight back.

Shifts in technology will eventually destroy the current model. Of course it always happens that way. But usually you just shift to the new model with the change.

I really don't feel any type of computer generated content is a large threat to the adult space. Its a pendulum, whatever is big it will eventually create a need and things will swing the other way.
