Get an Asus, I've spilled nearly everything on mine, even dropped it from a good four feet and it's still running like nothing ever happened.

Dell Studio 17. Wish I'd spent a bit extra and got the 1900x1200 screen though.

WarChild 10-21-2010 01:44 PM

I have a 16" Sony Vaio VPCF12 series with an intel i7 core and Blueray and I'm happy with it.

I'm very satisfied with my Asus G73Jh, (Lexus of Laptops)
It's a quiet gaming laptop that is very fast, 7200 rpm harddrive instead of 5400 rpm, and a dream to use. Try it out in the closest laptopstore:

After seeing the new Air I want one of those for travel :)

RebelR 10-21-2010 01:57 PM

13 inch Mac Book Pro, I love the size of the screen.. hardly notice it in my laptop bag. Great size on a plane and 8 hours of battery.

Spec'd up Alienware. First one burnt out, they had to replace it. I'd probably get an ASUS too if I were you.

bronco67 10-21-2010 02:36 PM

I have a Toshiba Qosmio 550 i7. Everyone that sees is comments that its the biggest laptop they've ever seen.

I'm so pissed that I got a 15 inch last time. Thought it would be lighter, better battery, and easier to move. But now I wish I would of got a 17 inch. And I always stick with Sony, I got hooked on them a couple years back because they where only one that could run my video edits smoothly.

I should say my next will be a 17 inch 3d

sambucas 10-21-2010 03:18 PM

Mac Book 13 inch, but I use external monitor.

amateurbfs 10-21-2010 03:20 PM

I've got the M6500, i7-920XM Quad at 2.00Ghz, 16GB DDR3 at 1333Mhz, nVidia Quadra FX 3800M (1GB DDR3), Dual 256GB SSD RAID 0, 17" WUXGA 1920x122 RGB LED, running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

My only complaint at this point is that after several hours on the phone with Dell and another several hours on the phone with Microsoft I'm still unable to get the USB 3.0 ports to work. Dell's actually sending someone out to replace the hardware since none of the driver/software based trouble-shooting has worked. Once they get these 3.0 ports working I'll be very happy with the system.

BTW, it's also driving three 27" displays. :)

17" maxed out MacBook Pro :2 cents:

Oracle Porn 10-21-2010 06:17 PM

Asus N51...It's a bit over a year old a now considered "old"

* 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo T9550 Processor
* 4GB RAM
* 320 GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
* 15.6 Display (HD 1366 X 768 LED), NVidia GT 130M 1 GB DDR2 VRAM

I have it connected to two 19" monitors.

Dam that cost a pretty penny :)

It was the RAID SSD that got me. I really dont think I need it after all
Was like + $900

I have no complaints. The SSD was a great idea. It has been two years at the beginning of the month.

I use a Dell Precision M6400 with a 17" screen and it's awesome. Quad core, 8Gb 2hdd (one ssd) - this is my desktop equivalent. For travel I use an old Dell D600 (got 2 of them, one running linux and the other Win7 32bit)

I prefer the Dell business line - you get tech support from North America, including next day on-site (for the M6400). Nothing worse than having to decipher some berry berry fine gentlemans Engrish with a 3rd world mentality.

Years ago I did tech support for Compaq and I know what is good support - it has to be based in the US/Canada.

Dell Vostro which I'm pleased with (apart from the annoying blue flashing light in sleep mode)
I was even able to successfully Hackintosh it.

u-Bob 10-22-2010 03:37 AM

desktops for daily use, 13" sony for travel.

sexyfunny 10-22-2010 04:16 AM

my just out of warranty 17" HP DV7 itself the other week, apparently a problem with the motherboard that would cost almost $1k to replace. my sister bought the same one and her screen cracked almost right away. HP can go eat a dick.

meanwhile my ASUS that was about a quarter of the price of the HP, is running fast and just feels all around awesome. will definitely go with ASUS for my next laptop :)

Yeah, out the door price was $8,500 and change. Not cheap but it's one bad ass piece of hardware. And as Hessie pointed out Dell's business support line is incredible and everyone I've spoke with there has been a native English speaker. ;-) That alone is worth $8,500 :winkwink:
