That monkeys typin on computers theory
Ever hear of that theory or whatever that says if you have a room full of monkeys bangin on computers, eventually they will type the works of Shakespeare?
I know theres some theory like that, and I just think thats biggest load of BULLSHIT I have ever heard. |
This is the only monkey you need to do the job, he just finished banging out the Japanese translation of The Bible..
Now hes going to make some TGP pages for Choker. http://www.symynet.com/online_gift_s...pictures_3.jpg |

Biggest load of bullshit? How do you figure? Didn't put too much thought into that one did ya? |

you argue a good point Triple 6,
were you a member of the high school debating team? |
Triple 6 --
The trick is that you need monkeys with infinite lifespans. Assuming Shakespeare's works include 10 million characters (made that up) and 40 possibilities per character (26 letters and 14 punctuation marks, again made up), there are 40 to the 10 millionth power configurations. Ok, that's a lot but if you allow the moneys to live forever, eventually they will reproduce any work including the works of shakespeare. A simpler thing to realize is that "triple 6" occurs at random 1 in 40 to the 8th power = 1 in 6.5 trillion times using the same assumptions above. A monkey like you produced it pretty fast ;-) |

Ive only heard this theory from 'word of mouth', I didnt exactly read it in a math book, so I didnt know that these monkeys had to be immortal and shit. But even still, I don't buy it. Maybe its because I dont know the entire theory. I am under the impression that they would eventually bang out shakespeare in its entirety, a continous bang out of shakespeare - but if the theory is that you can eventually pull out 'the works of shakespeare' from different sections of monkey type, ok, I can see thats 'possible', just like pulling out anything else literary from it 'eventually'. pointless: I wasnt arguing any 'point', I was making a blunt opinion. If I was a math geek I would have included a bunch of numbers and crap in my post. spaceace: see above |

You can use this same X^N argument to explain why long passwords are a Good Thing(tm) (although X is closer to 80, and in that case it matters). |
